Unity Farm Sanctuary

Unity Farm Sanctuary Unity Farm Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) farmed animal sanctuary in Sherborn MA Each rescue arrives here with a special story.

Unity Farm Sanctuary founders Dr. John Halamka and Kathy Halamka created Unity Farm Sanctuary in late 2016. The mission of Unity Farm Sanctuary is to provide a safe and loving lifelong home for farm animals, to offer the public unique educational programs, and to promote a culture of kindness, compassion and connection. Residents here include alpaca, llama, horses, ponies, miniature horses, sheep,

cows, goats, pigs and a vast array of feathered friends. We network with the community and other organizations to help as many farm animals as possible find loving lifelong homes. By working together with the community on topics such as farm animal care, sustainable organic farming practices, the power of kindness, and volunteerism, we hope to extend our impact for positive change for animals and people alike. To further this end, we host Sanctuary Tours, educational workshops for all ages, wellness and creativity retreats, and are particularly proud of a variety of internship and volunteer opportunities for adults, and students as young as 10 accompanied by a parent. The Sanctuary is located minutes away from the Mass Pike in Natick, yet it is worlds away from urban life in bucolic wooded Sherborn MA. The animal living areas are not open to the public except during our Public Tours, but visitors are encouraged to walk the trails here that connect with the Bay Circuit Trail and are open in daylight hours. We hope you visit our “Meet The Animals” section of our website to learn more! https://www.unityfarmsanctuary.org/animals

The Sanctuary today represented everything we hope to accomplish. 🙏

Volunteers from the community were here: high school interns; young adults part of life-skills learning groups; veterans and active duty leaders; individual community members; and a group of graduating seniors completing a significant community service projects of 50 hours each.

A large preschool program from a neighboring town came for tours and humane education programs, with a lot of joy spread all around. Spring is our huge school visit season, where students come for our free humane education programs.

Our preschool, The Sanctuary Forest School was active and participating in Sanctuary life. We had a farewell lunch for beloved team member Emma who graduated from MassBay today, and she will soon begin the rest of her college program in Maine. Our Animal Caregiver Team is one we are very proud to have.

Our rescues were loved today (and everyday), cared for, and provided with the feeling of safety and belonging.

Nirvana Tea House and Cafe welcomed guests and served compassionate and delicious food and drink.

It takes hard work by many people here to make this all happen. We would not have it any other way! 'Mission Vision, Values'are always at the heart of everything we strive to achieve.

Thank you to everyone on the journey with the Sanctuary!

Did you know that Hamish the White Highland Coo will be 2 years old on June 15th next month? 💓
He has some goofiness at his horn tips, but nothing like Wallace's horns' goofiness!
We were so happy to hear last month that his heart murmur was basically undetectable now - it was a bad murmur back when he was in the hospital upon his rescue at 5 days old. He was so very sick then, but he was (and is) a true fighter.
Our little miracle wee fellow!

Its National Pet Month in May!
And for people like all of you, it doesn't take a calendar holiday to think about the animals you love. They're already there, sharing special moments with you every day.

Whether it’s a rescued farm animal finding peace in our sanctuary or the beloved companions waiting for you at home, animals provide us with a kind of unconditional love that defines “family”.

That’s why we’re excited to share a free resource from our partners at FreeWill to help protect your family, including the animals you love. This secure online tool allows you to create a will in 20 minutes at no cost. You can also create a 'pet trust' to ensure your animals are always protected, no matter what.

Since we can never know what tomorrow will bring, I know we rest easier with a written legal plan for our companion animals (and also for the entire Sanctuary)

Our hearts are heavier today. 🙏
I have not yet shared with you all about our loss last week of Daisy, a Jumbo Pekin duck. Months of specialized joint care by the vet team at MSPCA AngellWest and the Animal Caregiver Team here. When Daisy clearly stopped enjoying her days, we laid her to rest.
We have also been intensively caring for Honeybun, our older White Broad Breasted turkey gal during this same time. She was at least 5 when she arrived here, and at least 6 this year. She has been on several medications for lingering infections, a pressure sore on her leg, joint issues, heart issues, and something we could not pinpoint in her throat without exploratory surgery and its risks. Her various diverse poor health symptoms have been increasing to the point she has also no longer had really good days She was always so sweet and affectionate. To ease her suffering, we laid her to rest this morning.
This is the truly hard part of Sanctuary - knowing that farmed animals are not bred to live long and healthy lives. We do our best to maximize their health, but we believe in the quality of their life over mere quantity.
Rest easy ladies, you were very loved. 🌱

On this day (and every day) we remember those who never returned and gave their lives for others, in world conflicts throughout history. This is also a day to remember the horses, dogs and so many other species that also lost their lives in those same conflicts.
Namaste 🙏
May all beings be safe
May all being be happy
May we know peace
