Hi everyone!
Just as a heads up, and an apology for the lack of notice, but Comcast has said that they will be working in our area and we will likely have service outages throughout the day. What does this mean for you? Our phones will likely be down throughout the day. This also means that our text messages and voicemails will also likely be down. Please bear with us and if you need something, feel free to pop in and say hello!
We appreciate your patience - this wasn't planned and they only notified us today.

Hey Friends! We’re here to spread the word about a zoonotic disease called Leptospirosis that is recently on the rise in our area.

First, let’s talk about what a zoonotic disease is. A zoonotic disease is a disease that can spread across different species and to people. There aren’t a lot of things that are zoonotic, but Rabies and Leptospirosis are big ones for our pet families to be aware of.

Now, what is Leptospirosis and why should you care? Leptospirosis is a disease caused by the bacteria Leptospira. These bacteria can be found in soil and water and there are many strains that can cause disease. Leptospira can live in ponds, lakes, rivers, marshy areas, and standing/stagnant water. There are many mammals that are susceptible to this disease including dogs, people, livestock, and certain wildlife like squirrels, deer, rodents, and raccoons. Leptospirosis is most often spread through the urine of an infected animal and can survive for weeks to months in urine-soaked soil.

This disease, if not caught and treated in a timely manner, can progress to kidney and/or liver failure, lung disease, bleeding disorders, etc. Some common symptoms vary from loss of appetite, lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea all the way to stiffness, muscle pain, abdominal pain, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes).

How can you prevent this disease from affecting your pets and loved ones? One of the most important tools for prevention is vaccinating all dogs in the household against Leptospirosis. This helps prevent not only your pets from contracting it but also yourselves, spouses, partners, kids, and other family members.
We hope this has helped explain what Leptospirosis is and how you can best prevent it. If you have further questions or would like to discuss vaccinating your pet for this disease, please feel free to reach out to us at 360-426-2616.
