How long must l wait for the freedom train?
Penned by Mary
This is how my relatives must have felt living here in Cleveland county, Weston, North Carolina, in the 1930s, 1940s and the 1950s. Living on Cotton Farms owned by former slave owners, working in the cotton fields, trying to earn a living for their families Picking at least 100 pounds of cotton per adult per day, dragging heavy sack behind them from early morning before the sun came up only stopping at 11:11 AM to send someone to bring food so they could eat while working allowing one of the workers go back and start cooking dinner, which they would not be able to eat until leaving the field at dart, at that time to feed their live stock their cows for the morning, milking the muse that pulled the plows, and the pigs, which they had to slaughter in late fall, and to also tend their small gardens what hardships they faced. But they were strong, determine that the future generations would not have to endure these hardships we come from sturdy stock people. I think my parents for teaching me a work ethic to treat others the way that I want to be treated. I miss my brother, who passed last year he was my only sibling left now it’s only me so I must give all the history that I can remember learning from my family to the young people my children my grandchildren my great grandchildren was no where where we came from came from. I will continue this series as often as I can, have a productive day and bless someone show them that you love them that you care about their well-being. God will bless you and keep you in the hollow of his hand as my mother used to say forever guiding you toward good toward peace toward love, his grace and mercy is what’s keeping you each day, Grace & Mercy wakes you up rejoice
