So, I've never actually measured this before, but this is our total food waste for a little less than 48 hous for 5 of us, but of our family of 8! This is only dinner , plus whatever I grab from the trash after the kids are running to the school bus at 645am, usually banana peels. I usually chuck random odds and ends over the fence for the chickens who come running each morning, but decided to keep a day or so's worth just to see . 2 days . 10 + pounds just of food ! ( I had to tilt the scale to get a photo.) 2 pounds per person in this house. Just imagine how much more you could compost of paper products, alone.. outside mostly go to the animals , but also in turn make a great addition to the garden and future food supply. I'm just flabbergasted at how much is actually used daily in our house, and how many others that do not save their left over scraps for some kind of use. I'm glad our chickies and goats , plus the garden benefit from all of this.
