A Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT)set-up with Goergia.

I remember my first few months learning more about Georgia. She is 40 pounds and she knows how to use her body.

My first walk into a new environment she went low to the ground and pulled hard trying to move towards whatever she saw. New environment and a lot of stimulus.

I took her for a car ride and I learned she will bolt. She went into flight mode, I had to use my body to block her. My lesson learned about her.

With BAT set- ups the dog gets to learn and it's the handlers job to observe the dog.

I offer BAT set- ups in my services it's another tool in my dog trainers tool box 🧰.

Dogs can make choices and learn.

Are you interested in learning how to use a clicker. Here is a fun exercise 😄 to do with a friend.

The clicker is an indicator to the animal they got it right and pay is coming.

This is an example of how 🤔 I let a dog figure it out. I don't need to use aversive tools on a dog.

I withhold the reward when a dog doesn't get it right.

You will notice Georgia moves out of her "stay" I don't need to punish, I repeat. I don't need to hold her down. She gets to think 🤔 and figure it out. Working her brain.

The clicker is used to mark the behavior. The clicker is one way to apply the principle of positive reinforcement.

Georgia is a high energy dog and an exercise set up like this she really has to think and get it correct to be rewarded.

The environment is distracting too. She would like to go chase squirrels or chase a bird off.

Dogs bark to communicate. This dog is a mix of many breeds.

Some people didn't want him because they said he was ugly. The first 12 months of his life was locked in a crate. His first few 4-months he did interact with children. He had one dog friend. Was any of this his fault? No!

This dog had appeasement urination meeting a new person or experiencing a visit to the veterinarian he would urinate.

Now to the barking where I started. He has Husky in him and if you know a Husky they can be vocal. A trait in him and his bark is loud and it carries.

Dogs bark for many reasons and there are 6- types of barking.

Working with dogs like this has given me the hands on experience. Collecting data helped in my case.

Understanding his behavior I helped him in situations to build confidence. He is still a curious dog. He will check something out before he will interact.

He has agency to decision making. I am there as his pilot as he navigates the human world.

As a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant ( CDBC) I listen to you and do want to know the details as much as you can give me.

This is not an obedience/ manners case, this is a dogs emotions and he was dealing with stress and fear.

He enjoys interacting with people, but he gets to make that choice. A dog friend? I never push him, he chooses or walks away.

When I do get the opportunity to have training sessions with little dogs. I try to view the world from their height. The world must appear big everywhere. Helping reactive dogs with management of the environment really helps.

Slow is better than fast when helping a dog with big emotions.

Helping dogs behavior with Scent Work. Today the wind was strong on the area and this caused the odor to shift.

This was good mental stimulation for him today.

From stress to calm without pain or force.
