I promise I won't make a habit of main posting on the spider page, but my band CHRONOPHAZE is playing our first show in a year tomorrow in Saint Joseph, MO at the Snake Bite Club.

It's a Halloween show too, so be sure to wear a costume if you want to fit in with the cool kids 🧙🪄

Wasn't sure if I'd ever see a mature male Pius in person, so please, enjoy this handsome little guy with me!

He goes by the name Tamale and has been in a few households since he matured in late August. I have a cb female that I've been raising from sling and had gone looking for wild ones over the summer. I only ended up finding a few micro species like Peppered and Flea jumping spiders, so I'm pleased Willow was able to call in a favor and get this guy to me. Plus...he's ORANGE!

Quick update on Pickleface, one of my P. Audax moms. One of her sons matured recently and I wanted to show off his abdomen pattern, compared to both of his parents.

I was hoping with this pairing that most of the offspring would have white abdomen patterns. You can see with this guy that he actually came pretty close! Even though he's not a Regal, this is a great example of how you never know what you'll end up with until they're mature. He had a ton of orange up until this molt, so I really wasn't expecting for him to lighten up so much. Great looking spider though from some great looking parents.

The most uncooperative boy of all time matured recently and look at that little mushroom b***y! I got him and what I think is a female Eresus moravicus, in a trade last year. Pretty sure he's an Eresus walckenaeri though, based on those legs and their lack of color.

By the way, I was talking about wanting to pair my female walckenaeri at some point but totally forgot that they basically liquify their organs to feed their young. So now I'm definitely conflicted. With females living something like eight years though, I'm definitely in no rush. This male on the other hand...

If you've ever found yourself in this position, you may be entitled to financial compensation. Or at least a freeze frame where you get to narrate to the viewer and bet that they're probably wondering how you got here.

Phidippus otiosus btw. The male is the one I posted recently from the mom, "Rhymes with Orange". He doesn't know how to dance. I had to scoot the female ALL the way across the dance floor.

I got to experience a pretty cool pairing today between one of my orange ladies and an orange-line (Vigilante) male from Super Spood Jumpers.

It was kind of funny because the female kept walking around while the male was doing his thing. She ended up getting annoyed and bucking him off after fifteen minutes, dropping her snack in the process. Was pretty cute how she grabbed it when I handed it back to her to finish.

Sometimes when keeping newer-to-me species, it can be hard to tell if females are mature or not. Like this Phidippus Arizonensis from Web Puppy Lodge, I could see a tan-colored epigynum, but it was a bit too smooth looking and I was expecting a darker color. Turns out my hunch was correct and she needed one more molt to mature.

While these more arid species won't get quite as large in size as Regals, I do think that they have much more beautiful abdomen patterns. This species in particular also seems to have quite a bit variability in what color they will be - like tan, brown, yellow, red, and orange.
