The City of Shawnee Animal Welfare focuses on encouraging responsible pet ownership by promoting and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the residents and pets of the City of Shawnee through education, enforcement and community partnership. If you have a problem with strays, please call 405-273-2121 for the Shawnee Police Dept. HAVE YOU FOUND/SEEN A STRAY PET/ANIMAL? Here are some VERY I

MPORTANT things to consider BEFORE you pick up that stray pet.

1) Keep in mind, that when you pick up a stray animal, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT ANIMAL UNTIL YOU MAKE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS FOR THAT ANIMAL OR UNTIL YOU FIND THE OWNER

2) IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO CARE FOR AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT STRAY ANIMAL UNTIL ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE.... DO NOT PICK UP THAT ANIMAL!!!!!

3) STRAY ANIMALS CAN BE VERY FEARFUL AND CAN BITE or can be exposed to an illness that you are not aware of! Do not put yourself, your family members and your family pets at risk by picking up a stray animal.

4) It is always best to call and inform the appropriate authority about the location and description of the stray animal you have seen. Be sure to note these helpful identifying characteristics:
1) Wearing a collar? Does collar have tags?
2) Approximate size or weight
3) Approximate breed type
4) Color/s

WE HAVE AN UPDATE.......
Upon further inspection......HARRIET is now HARRELL.

Todays Daring Rescue; brought to you by; Shawnee Animal Welfare

A call came in of a kitten stuck in the yellow construction barrier at the light on 177 and Acme Rd. The gentleman stated he pulled over at the gas station and will wait for an officer to show them.
Once the officer was on scene, they realized the kitten was under the barrier in the center of HW177. The good Samaritan took the officer over to where he heard the kitten. They were able to locate the kitten but unable to get their hand between the barriers. A female Police officer stopped to help slow traffic down and she was able to make a call to one of the construction guys to come see if he could help move the barrier. Between the four people they managed to get the baby out. How she ended up there without being hit is still a mystery and a miracle. She is now safe with us at the shelter. We’d like to give BIG shout out to Matt Harrell who called in and stayed to help get her out. We couldn’t have done it without you and a huge thank you to the Police Officer and the construction gentleman who stopped to help.
Everyone say hello to “Lil highway 177 AKA Harriet” named after her hero Matt Harrell.

Thank you for your donations! We appreciate you!
