As we enjoy a reprieve from the rain, we'll mention that with our incredibly soggy weather, we've been seeing a lot of dogs with "hot spots' on their necks. We typically see these during the Summer as well when dogs go swimming and a cloth type collar holds moisture against the skin. One thing which can help a lot is using a collar like the one pictured below. The coating on it prevents--or at least decreases--moisture being trapped against the skin. You can also find places to order them with a brass ID plate attached. Hunting dog supply places online are one option
Make it easier to see your dog at night and other low light situations with the Cabela's® Reflective Dog Collar. Made of a durable nylon webbing with a special coating to resist mildew, bacteria,...

We all know that puppies love to chew. Making sure that they chew on appropriate items and that they're safe while doing so can be a challenge. Miles has been known to try to bite off more than he can chew. So, Rachel wisely puts his bully sticks and other safe natural chews in a chewy holder and supervises him while he has chewy time
Ross Corner Animal Wellness Center offers all veterinary services for dogs and cats. We also offer chiropractic and acupuncture for dogs, cats, and horses. Dr. Amanda is working on her rehab certification as well

In case you haven't noticed, the ticks are out in full force. Besides the "ick" factor, ticks carry a whole range of diseases with New England being amount the most heavily affected parts of the country. Please make sure your four legged member are protected. We carry oral Bravecto for dogs (three month version for those over six months, one month version for younger dogs) and topical Bravecto for cats

It's porcupine season! 🏞️ This is the time of year we start seeing an increase in dogs getting quilled by porcupines. No, porcupines don't shoot their quills at dogs. Instead, porcupines back into & swipe their tails at curious dogs who get too close, resulting in a muzzle full of quills!
If this does happen to your pup, please do NOT attempt to remove the quills yourself! You can push the quills deeper, break them and cause migration, miss a few, or get bitten by your dog. Quills are painful and require removal by a veterinarian. Prevention: leash up in & around wooded areas from dusk to dawn when porcupines are most active!

I think loads of folks know about the awesome work being done by Grammy Rose in Acton. One of my friends is currently fostering a litter of nine week old puppies for The Grateful Dog and asked me to help spread the word that they are in our area. Along with her kids, my friend is hard at work getting these puppies socialized and loved in a home environment

This past Saturday, Dr. Amanda and Wicked competed in their first "big" competition together. The had the honor of competing in the Northeast Agility Championship which was broadcast live on AKC TV Saturday night. Wicked and her "purple pants" always make an impression. She knocked a bar when she saw a cameraman, but had the third fastest time in her jump height

We've started trying to teach Rowen to return a toy in training to Dr. Amanda. Well, she brought the toy back to RifRaf today

We are not above shameless bribery around here. Lickimats and squeeze cheese can make visits to see us a whole lot more pleasant. There's an entire drawer of "snacks" in our treatment room. And no, Rif will not eat cat treats. He only eats things marketed for dogs. And cheese, and carbs.

We're going to guess that many of you have gone to physical therapy at some point or another to deal with an injury. Helping dogs recover from injuries is part of the education Dr. Amanda received as part of working on her rehab certification since the pandemic start. Another aspect of it is injury prevention. In this video we see Dr. Amanda's dog, Torri, working on some position changes on a fitness peanut to work on her core fitness. This matters for Torri as she competes several weekends a month in agility.

We frequently are asked if we're accepting new clients/new patients and the answer to that is YES! We are currently able to accept new patients. For preventative care, we're typically scheduling about a week out. We set aside same day and next day sick appointments for urgent care needs. Besides the traditional veterinary care, we do offer acupuncture, chiropractic, and rehab.

Some of you may have heard of Rif's broad reaching food habits. No carb is safe around him. Today, he expanded his culinary horizons by sampling a corndog

Do you need a Holiday Stocking Stuffer for the beloved dogs or cats in your life? RifRaf declared himself the taste tester for the goodies which arrived from Polka Dog Bakery this week. We have both I Love you a Latke and Feliz Navidad treats in handy little tubes for $5 a piece at our front desk. Torri also endorsed them after Rif threw a container of them on the floor to share

These three little cuties are enjoying some Polka Dog Chicken Jerky. Based in Massachusetts, Polka Dog Bakery makes some great single ingredient dog treats. We're pleased to announce that we now carry their Chicken Jerky, along with Haddock and Cod Skins.

Despite being so called obligated carnivores, RifRaf is an absolute carb junkie. He was grateful that Rachel left him a burnt noodle from her Mac N Cheese today

Wicked's first dremel
So, some of you may remember our challenges with trimming Wicked's toenails. We showed you the Lickimat we use. A few weeks ago, we did a couple of sessions acclimating her to the noise of the dremel. Today, we used the dremel on her for the first time. This is exactly what happened. An uneventful nail trim. Apparently it was the pressure of the manual trimmers on her nails that she's hated the whole time.

Good thing we didn't need the box anymore! Nothing like a cardboard box to shred for kitty fun. We are still open for both wellness and sick pet care. We are open this Saturday from 9 to 3. Saturdays remain appointment only while social distancing restrictions are in place

Rif says it's always a good day when you get a new catnip toy. He also wants you to know that we are open this Saturday from 9 to 3. Appointments only due to social distancing requirements. And, we do have a few of these good catnip toys for sale

Toy
Our technician, Rachel, is making a crocheted gift. She also made Rif a catnip stuffed ball. He says it's the best present a kitty could ever ask for
