Welcome,
You may or may not know that I have worked independently in cat rescue for several years. Recently I answered a call to help two cats that has turned into an overwhelming project with the need for some organization and resources.
So here’s that story…
It’s all started with one message in April about cats being targeted at a mobile home park near me in Shakopee. By targeted I mean, shot with BB guns, run over, chased and poisoned to name a few.
There had been a targeted killing of a beloved neighborhood cat named Star and the residents wanted to protect the remaining (that they told me about).
I thought no big deal right?? How hard can it be to trap and find rescue or relocation for two cats? Well, I never found out…because two cats turned to three and three turned to seven and seven to at least a dozen. Every time I turn around there’s more cats. I’m honestly a little afraid to count.
The first cat turned out to have entropian (where their eyelids begin to turn in) and he couldn’t open his eyes. We named him Tony. Apparently this condition can result in blindness. I was lucky enough to have a contact who knows the founder of Furball Farm and they agreed to take Tony and get him the medical care he needed. We were able to raise almost $400 and donate it for his care. They eye surgery, neuter, and vaccinations cost the sanctuary well over $700, which is a fairly reduced rate. I tell you this just to give some perspective.
Since April, I have rescued and helped place Tony and 5 other cats from this park. I am STILL working on the project in addition to helping with others.
Yesterday, I went for what I thought would be my last scouting mission for the last trapping adventure here, one mom and her two kittens. You know what they say about the best laid plans…
Between yesterday morning and tonight I have trapped 5 more cats! I got the two babies and 3 completely unrelated felines. All 5 of them are currently with me. 3 need to be socialized, 3 are kittens, one has a leg deformity from birth that needs vet attention, one is malnourished and has a possible URI which also needs vet attention and one doesn’t want to eat.
On my adventures during the “last trapping” (yeah right) I made some more friends and identified at least 8 more cats that needs to be trapped and returned, relocated or rescued. A great majority of them are kittens.
I have finally realized I am going to need a significant amount of help to wrap this project up. I have already invested a significant amount of energy, time and money and I need help.
Here is a little list of what I need. Anything and everything helps!
1. Financial donations, (to help with cost for surgeries, vaccinations, and medical needs that arise) I can accept Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, Facebook Pay, Apple Pay and I will also post vet information & estimated whenever I have it for direct donations for medical care.
2. Trapping help (mostly to monitor and transport).
3. Supplies (kitten food wet & dry, clumping litter, wire kennels or “cat condos”, flea/tick treatment, dewormer).
4. Fosters, Adopters and Farms for relocation.
5. Someone who speaks Spanish to help me communicate with the pet owners in the community about help spaying/neutering their pets, so we can avoid a repeat of this sad situation.
6. Advice: any and all advice accepted.
Thank you from the bottom of my tiny little black heart 🖤 ❤️
