Sometimes it's weeks before I'm sleeping with another dog. This week however, I've been sleeping with this dog. Her name is Sagee and she is very loud at night... apparently no other dogs are welcome in the "Sitter's Bed" but Sagee. She's a beautiful nut.

Well, well, well...the majority of us humans made it through the 4th of July unscathed. Thankfully.

For those humans with pets, be it livestock or hamsters, and all the fur babies in between, my soul feels your pain.

I mean, our four-leggers aren't equipped to handle backyard cannons. As they scramble to find a safe place to hide from the barrage of explosions and rapid-fire cartridges til the wee hours, they find no peace in their only world where "safe" was never questioned.

As fun as it is for families to celebrate the 4th (and few other holidays) my wish is that all fireworks should stay at the local parks only. That way our four-leggers would never have to experience such trauma again.

And I oughta know, I've slept with a lot of dogs. ๐Ÿ˜‰โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

All He Wants is a Chance: Ghost is Waiting

Ghostโ€™s innocent eyes speak volumes as he stares through the bars of his cage. At only 4 months old, heโ€™s already known the pain of abandonment. Trapped in an empty world, his longing for love and care is written all over his face. Heโ€™s scared, heโ€™s alone, and heโ€™s waiting for a miracle. Will you be the one to bring him home? His future is in your hands.

Ghost, a 4-month-old male American Bully, in his shelter kennel. His large, soulful eyes gaze through the glass, full of confusion and sadness. The blank stare and slight droop of his head reveal a deep sorrowโ€”a puppy who doesnโ€™t understand why heโ€™s alone. His white coat shines in the dim shelter light, but the reflection of the harsh environment only deepens his sadness. His body posture is passive, resigned, as if waiting for someone to change his fate. There is no escape for him, no warmth or comfort, only the cold wall and the steel bars.

It's late and it's finally the end of the week and almost the end of a few overnights here at PB4P. As I scroll through the photos of the past few days, at times my breath catches in my throat and I am reminded of the great direction this doggie daycare has come the past few years. I'm grateful for this ride I'm on.

Don't mistake the love of this job for daily ease of operations. It's quite the opposite, running a doggie daycare is hard work. Let's face it. The pounds of p**p scooped daily would make a lot of people stay pet free for life.๐Ÿคฃ

Doing the above while also using no crates is another story altogether. Without using crates to keep grumpy dogs apart or to collect them for a moment of rest does limit the number of four-leggers I can handle on a daily basis, but it sure makes for a wonderful group of bonded friends for the dogs that do come to play. Some days there are 8 "best friends" here.

Because of my "no crate policy", I've had to refuse a few four-leggers for the sake of the safety of all involved.

Also because of no crates, I realize the importance of never looking weak in front of any one of them, let alone collectively. Nope. I need to be the pack leader. The Boss. The final decision maker. The last word. Period. They're buying it so far. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seeing this current group of friends thrive because of our handpicked companionships makes these sacrifices and hard work worth every minute of our time together.

I've never been afraid of hard work. Pet sitting, if done correctly, is definitely hard work (physically as well as mentally) but I do dig my job. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ
