As our “Spring litters” get ready to head home who knew I would need to acclimate them to the sunshine ☀️! I would say they should at least be desensitized to thunder storms though!! They have been such a fun and easy bunch to have around, despite all the rain this season.

Thirteen years ago today our first litter was born and we became Finley River Retrievers! To bring it all home, I got this email several months back from a family who got one of our first Golden puppies. That 10 year old girl is now about to graduate college and head off to Veterinary School and ready for another puppy! Did that first puppy, Kate, influence her career path?? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d like to think so. But either way, our loyal families never seize to amaze and humble me. Thank you all for following, sharing, getting pups, and giving people my name! Happy 1️⃣3️⃣ birthday, Finley River Retrievers!

Read Across America week has become one of my favorite weeks of the school year. Back by popular demand, the puppies were invited back for Visitor Read Alouds, where community members come read to the students. Since the puppies can’t read, they allowed me in to do that 😉. We also accompanied another volunteer while she read. We went in two consecutive days and the puppies and kids did great with each other. I explained to them that they were helping these puppies become socialized to begin their new journeys with their owners, and the students took this role very seriously and were so gentle with them. It really is amazing how calm and well behaved 2nd graders can be around them when given such an important task ☺️. Thank you, Fordland Elementary!

As many of you long time followers (I won’t call you old as I’m older than most of you) know, Carly was born on our farm and the daughter of our original, the OG, Finley River Retriever, Candy. Her November litter of only 2 puppies was her final one as she’s happily entered retirement. Her contributions live on in her son, who will someday hopefully sire more Finley River Retrievers! I would ask for name suggestions but I doubt any will stick. I planned on taking charge and naming him but somehow, once again, my girls decided they liked the name Maverick. However, they’ve never once called him that and he now comes to the name Ricky…
Whatever. Everyone, meet 🐾

Did you wake up to snow?!This is about the most we get and usually only get a decent amount once or twice a year. So we take advantage of it when we can! I got notifications all day of people tagging me or sending me pics of their dogs in the snow, and mine were no different! I shared a lot of yours in my stories so I thought I’d post mine here! ❄️ ⛄️

First I want to thank all of those who have sent me Christmas cards and photos this season, I truly love them all. Almost every year I’ve been able to mail holiday cards to everyone who got a puppy from me within the year, but this year I just knew I wouldn’t have time to address them all. It didn’t happen ☹️. Im disappointed in myself, it’s the least I can do to show my immense appreciation for all you guys do for me! Merry Christmas Eve Eve! 🎄🎅🏼

I love a good pupdate! Piper went to her new home, a retired couple, 5 years ago today. She competes in Doc Dog events, spends her days at the hospital, and has been featured in “Top Docs.” Just goes to show…it’s never too late to get a puppy and give her a dream life!
