Molly has been a valued member of the VVC team since 2023, and we couldn't be prouder of the hard work, dedication, and determination she has shown to reach this incredible milestone.

🔬🐄 VVC Lab Lessons: Mastitis Cultures
Ever wonder what happens after a milk sample arrives at the lab?
For mastitis cultures, the process starts by organizing each milk sample by the cow’s ID number. Samples are then plated onto blood agar and MacConkey agar, which help us differentiate between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
After 24 hours of incubation:
Our lab team evaluates the plates, records what is observed, and performs any necessary secondary testing.
After 48 hours of incubation:
The cultures and secondary test results are evaluated and the final results are reported back to the farm.
These cultures provide valuable information to help identify the bacteria involved in mastitis cases and support informed herd health decisions.
