Congratulations Carissa Koeppel! All our vets at VVC love working with you !

Our Herd Manager Carissa Koeppel leads our herd health team here at Kinnard Farms.

Her team is responsible for the day-to-day care of our animals, including disease prevention and treatment. It’s a role that requires both attention to detail and a strong understanding of animal health, and she brings both.

Carissa’s interest in this work started early, with an apprenticeship at a veterinary clinic while she was still in high school. She went on to become a Certified Veterinary Technician through Madison Area Technical College, where her time at a large animal clinic in Casco first introduced her to our farm.

She started here as a herdsperson and stepped into the role of Herd Manager in 2020. Carissa is celebrating 10 years at Kinnard Farms this month!

At the end of the day, Carissa takes pride in providing a good life for both the cows and the people who care for them, and that shows in the work her team does every day.

Outside of the farm, she’s a mom to two active boys who love being outdoors. When she finds a quiet moment, you’ll usually find her with a cup of coffee and a good book. Her partner, Luke, owns a trucking company and is often around the farm as well.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at VVC! 💐🐄

A great day with our NE WI Peer Group
Bottles to Bunks

• Slow changes = less stress
• Separate feed changes, pen moves & vaccines when possible
• 18 inches of bunk space per calf matters
• There’s always a “boss calf” at the feed bunk 😅
• Hay fills rumen space fast, but grain provides more calorie & protein density
Great conversations focused on health of calves .
Guess what else we got to see a calf’s rumen at 4 weeks , 8 weeks , and 24 weeks !
Special thanks to Dr. Kendra and Amanda from Purina for presenting today and a giant thank you to Patty from Valley Line Dairy for hosting .

Dr. Derek was out at Our Greener Pastures helping deliver a BIG baby girl!
Sometimes calves need a little extra assistance making their arrival, and this healthy heifer definitely made an entrance! Great teamwork all around to help both mom and calf do well.

Elisabeth and Nikki were out at Wichman Farms today for a field trip with Adventures in Dairyland! 🐄🚜

They had a great time helping students learn more about dairy farming, animal care, and where their food comes from. We always enjoy opportunities to connect with the next generation and share our passion for the dairy industry!

Thank you to Wichman Farms for having us!
