🎃 HAPPY HOWLOWEEN FROM OUR FRIENDS! 🐾

Our dogs and cats got a very special Halloween treat this year, and we have to give a HUGE thank you to Five Star Sweets for baking up some goodies for our animals! They absolutely loved them. 🥹

Adoptions were unfortunately still a little slow this week, but we’re keeping our hopes HIGH for the week ahead. These animals deserve their forever homes, and we’re not giving up on them!

For now, we’re just happy to see some very spoiled pups (and kitties!) enjoying their Halloween treats. 🎃

🥳We were so grateful to have Blue River featured on the news tonight, sharing the reality that we are at capacity and desperately need qualified adopters and fosters ASAP. 💙

👉And we’re not done! We’ll be back on the news again this weekend to continue spreading the word about the animals who need us.

In the meantime, we’re OPEN TOMORROW from 1–4 PM! 🐾

We know it’s Halloween, but we’re hoping you’ll stop by and give yourself a little more “treat” and a lot less “trick.” 🎃

🙏Here’s what we’re asking: If you’ve been thinking about adopting, come meet the dogs and cats tomorrow. If you can’t adopt but have room in your home to foster, come talk to us about fostering. And if neither is possible, share this post with someone who might be our next adopter or foster.

Every person through our doors could make a difference for an animal who desperately needs a place to go.

And because it’s Halloween…everyone who stops by gets a special treat! 👀🍬

‼️ CAT LOVERS ‼️You’ve probably seen us pleading for our dogs lately — and believe us, they deserve every bit of that attention. But we don’t want anyone to forget about our long-term feline resident, Kit. 🐱

Kit is friendly, gorgeous, and a little particular about getting the attention she deserves. 😉 She would absolutely thrive in a home where she can soak up plenty of love and attention from her people.

She’s a huge fan of sitting in her favorite window and watching the world go by, and she doesn’t mind having other adult cats around to keep her company.

So why is this beautiful girl still waiting? Probably because she’s a little shy at first, she’s usually not the first to greet you at the door and patiently waits and hopes you’ll greet her first. 🥹

Oh, and she’s allergic to fish. Honestly, not huge deals in our book. We’re just hoping there’s someone out there who can shares Kit’s disdain for fish and can bond with her over it. 🐟🚫🤣

Kit is currently our only adult cat, after watching all of her friends find homes. She’s been waiting long enough. 💔

Can we finally get Kit HOME this weekend? 💙

📣WE’VE GOT SOME MEDIUM & SMALLER-SIZED DOGS WHO REALLY NEED THEIR PEOPLE.💙

If you’ve been thinking about adding a dog to your family, please look at these five.*

🥲1. GINNY 🥹
Sweet Ginny girl. She has been with us for 3+ months and has NEVER had someone ask to meet her. Not one application. Not one person showing up for her. 😭

We honestly don’t understand it.Ginny is sweet, happy, cuddly, and has the silliest little hops when she gets excited. She still has a playful, active side and will absolutely do anything for her people.

We are BEGGING someone to come meet Ginny. Give this girl a chance. We promise she is worth it. 💔

2. SYDNEY
Sydney has spent her entire life in the shelter system. 😞 She’s still just a puppy and nearly lost her life after being attacked by a kennel mate at another shelter.

We knew we could help her. And look at her now. 🥹

Sydney is thriving and ready for someone who can help channel that active Heeler puppy energy into something productive. She’s sweet, energetic, and would be an awesome adventure buddy for an active family or farm.

3. ZEKE
Brand new to Blue River and already winning hearts. Zeke is a total sweetheart, gets along with all dogs, and loves nothing more than curling up in a cozy bed surrounded by his people. 😍

He’s looking for a home where pets are truly part of the family. 💙

4. VADER
Young, silly, active, and VERY into snuggles. Vader would love an active family who can keep up with him and then settle in for some serious cuddle time afterward.

He’s got adorable spotted socks and adorable pointy ears to match! 🫶

5. ADDIE
Addie spent 9 weeks in training as a puppy through our partnership with Second Chance, and now she’s back at Blue River and ready for her forever home!

She’s young, full of personality, and already has some training under her belt. Basically… who wants a fun young dog without starting completely from scratch? 😉

Five dogs. Five very different personalities. Five dogs who are waiting for someone to finally say:

👉 “That’s MY dog.” 💙

💔We’re tired. And honestly, we’re disheartened.

What started out as a really great week last week quickly took a turn. 💔

Yankee was adopted, but unfortunately the family didn’t think adoption was the right fit and he came back to us.

Sheba was adopted, but she and the resident cats struggled with the transition, and she came back to Blue River as well.

We had another return due to a family emergency, along with another family reaching out because they may no longer be able to keep their previously adopted dog.

😭😭😭

We understand that sometimes things happen that are outside of anyone’s control. We truly do. But that doesn’t make them any easier.

We’re out of space. The dogs are feeling it. Intake is closed for the foreseeable future. And our team is exhausted and disheartened.

The hardest part? We have dogs waiting to come into Blue River. Dogs who need us. Dogs we desperately want to help.

Every time we think we might finally have a little room to breathe and say YES to another animal, something happens that puts us right back at the starting line. 😞

‼️We need our community right now.‼️

We need fosters. We need adopters who are ready to commit. We need people willing to give these dogs patience and time as they adjust. And we need you to keep sharing them, rooting for them, and maybe even adopting them.

We are 100% full up on amazing pups. We just need some amazing people to step up for them. We have a pup for every type of home and lifestyle, so PLEASE stop in during open hours or schedule an appt to meet them.

Because these dogs are counting on us. And right now, we’re counting on you. 🙏

👉We also want to gently remind our adopters of the *3-3-3 rule.** Bringing a rescue dog home is a huge transition. They need time to decompress, learn their new environment, build trust, and truly settle in. Please give them the patience, consistency, and grace they deserve. 💙

🫶Meet AdoptableRiver! 🐾

This young pup somehow has the manners of an old soul! He is so sweet, incredibly well-mannered, and absolutely ADORES kids. 🥹

But don’t let those good manners fool you — River is still a playful, silly pup who is always ready for some fun. He’d love nothing more than to become your new best friend.

And his size? PERFECT. Just the right size to fit comfortably in anyone’s lap for all the cuddles. 🥰

🧬 JEREMY’S DNA RESULTS ARE IN!🧬

🎉And for some even more exciting news: yesterday Jeremy headed to a 3-week board & train!🎉

We want to be really clear — Jeremy is a GREAT dog. This training isn’t because he has any major behavioral issue that needs to be “fixed.” It’s about giving this young guy a break from the shelter environment and teaching him some of the puppy skills he missed out on learning while growing up in the shelter system.

He’s smart, affectionate, playful, eager to please, and has SO love to give. We’re giving him the tools to be the best version of himself. 🥹

But we need one very important thing…A HOME FOR HIM TO COME BACK TO. 🏠

We want Jeremy to finish his training and go straight into a forever home where his person can continue building on everything he’s learned.

Who’s ready to give this great dog his happily ever after? 💙
