Hey all!! Tumblina has a new roommate! Her name is Orbit! Her climbing and jumping is more akin to an excited duckling than a squirrel. She has cerebelar hypoplasia and when she stands upright too fast she swirls in a little circle! We are working in her license now. But they need a larger enclosure so they will have all the space they need! I have added a rolling catio enclosure to our amazon wishlist just in case anyone wants to send them a new home! This will allow them to spend time outside on beautiful days. Their current cage is not too steady so we cant roll it outside, so I open a window for them. I know they would love to feel the wind ruffle their tails. ❤️ they also need more nuts and seeds!
If you would like to help us rescue and rehab wildlife please consider donating!

🚨 Texas wildlife rescuers are split over new rehab rules.

Texas wildlife rehabilitators are divided after state officials approved major changes to the rehab program. The rules aim to improve training and oversight, but critics say they could leave fewer people available to help injured animals.

This is very important

This is very important

Please read before calling.

Say what???
Each time a rehabber (volunteers) takes an animal, they:
1. Troubleshoot the call to give reuniting tips
2. Complete paperwork for the state at intake.
3. Examine the critter for injuries and overall condition.
4. Provide them with a clean and disinfected pen, heat and bedding.
5. Provide first aid and medication.
6. Feed them. Specialized formula, fresh fruits, vegetables and/or nuts, eggs, meats, etc
7. Weigh and adjust feeding times (around the clock with infants) as required to improve health.
8. Keep them until ready for release (most orphans are with us a MINIMUM of 2 months).
This is bare basics and doesn’t include answering hundreds of calls/texts, state inspection, cleaning cages, building cages, vet visits, putting personal things on hold (it’s hard finding a sitter while you’re away for your 3 domestic pets, there are none for 50 squirrels, 65 raccoons, and 75 opossums) and more.
We get it. We signed on to do it, unpaid as volunteers, because we saw the need.
PLEASE don’t contact us and expect us to come pick the critter up too! Reach out to friends or neighbors, take an extra moment and find a way to get them to us. We have to count on that much help, we will do all the rest.
