Interesting article on the black bears. A lot is unknown about the black bears except they are born as wild bears, that will become habituated by humans just like all the other wildlife. My book "BEAR ATTACK in the SMOKIES", includes the true and horrific events that have never been disclosed, and led to a black bear attack that killed a local school teacher. Book is in its finality and should be available by May 21st 2020 that is the 20 year anniversary of the bear attack. When you read the book, you may never enter into a National Park again.
Of all the carnivores and ungulates in Yellowstone National Park, black bears are the last to be researched by park staff and biologists. The Yellowstone Black Bear Project, funded in part by Yellowstone Forever, is using field work, DNA analysis, and GPS tracking camera collars to determine black bear densities in the northern range, as well as how they travel, feed, and interact across the region.
As lead biologist Kerry Gunther puts it, āThe black bear is the last big carnivore that we donāt have a lot of data on. Itās the last piece of the puzzle.ā
