Druid was with us last week and keeping that kid occupied (so she doesn't yell at you when you're boring 🤣) is fun! Introducing new toys, then HIDING those toys and telling her to find them is one way we helped her stay entertained.

Good morning! With this mild and lovely Monday morning comes a reminder that there are MANY reasons why your dog shouldn't be allowed to wander loose. Those STATE WIDE leash laws exist for a reason. Let's list a few (you guys chime in if I leave any out):

1. Safety. Your dog is safer if he's protected and near you. Fences and leashes provide safety for your pup.

2. Health. Your intact pets won't create more unwanted dogs.

3. Traffic. Your contained dogs don't endanger drivers and passengers by crossing roads.

4. Neighbors. While it's generally a horrid thought, it IS true that not everyone loves dogs. Some folks have trauma associated with dogs and they either avoid using public spaces while loose dogs roam, OR they're inclined to protect themselves from your dog. We know he's friendly. Not all of your neighbors do.

5. Midnight dog walkers. Your loose dog prevents other GOOD DOGS who aren't dog friendly from accessing public spaces freely and safely. Introverted dogs and dogs who have trauma from being attacked deserve to go on walks, too.

6. ITS THE LAW. You're not entitled to let your dog roam and use your neighbor's yard as a restroom. Anywhere in Texas that is public property and NOT posted as off leash designated space, there is a leash law. Private property where you have not obtained explicit permission from the property owner (and the resident if those are different people) is OFF LIMITS to you and your dog. If you're still unconcerned about all of the other reasons listed, consider your bank account when the fines start to stack up.

Body language from dogs isn't easily interpreted from single pictures. SOME pictures with obvious whale eye or lip licking can give you a pretty good idea of the situation, but others like this can go more than one direction. Having background on the dogs' temperament and relationship can help. Druid (left) is a soft natured girl who LOVES to play. Luna (right) is similarly tender hearted and while she's less energetic than Dru, she is usually up for a good romp at least half the day. These pups have seen each other sporadically since they were puppies. What happened next? POUNCE! CHASE!

Merlin was SUPER uncertain about being in a crate for his first week here. All of his meals have been increasingly closer to the crate (and about 3 days ago just inside the crate). This morning, he decided it's easier to get in and have breakfast in bed. We'll be working towards eating in his crate from a food toy to help exercise that puppy brain!
