πŸ‚πŸΎ Level Up Your Dog's Training at Home πŸΎπŸ‚

Most dog owners practice the basics, but mental engagement is what truly helps create a confident, well-rounded dog. At Sitton Mill Kennels, we believe training is about building focus, confidence, and a stronger bond between you and your dog. Try these advanced at-home training exercises:

πŸ”Ή The "Place" Challenge
Teach your dog to settle on a designated bed or mat while life happens around them. This builds impulse control and teaches calm behavior.

πŸ”Ή Find It Games
Hide treats or favorite toys throughout your home and let your dog use their nose to locate them. Scent work is an excellent way to provide mental stimulation and build confidence.

πŸ”Ή Pattern Interruptions
Randomly ask for a behavior your dog knows during everyday activities. A quick "sit" before opening a door or a "place" command during dinner prep strengthens obedience in real-world situations.

πŸ”Ή Object Discrimination
Teach your dog the names of specific toys and encourage them to retrieve the correct one. It's a fun way to challenge their brain and improve communication.

πŸ”Ή The Art of Doing Nothing
One of the most overlooked skills is teaching a dog to simply relax. Reward calm behavior when they're resting quietly instead of always rewarding excitement.

β˜€οΈπŸΎ End of Summer Grooming Tips for Your Dog! πŸΎβ˜€οΈ

As summer winds down, it's the perfect time to give your pup a little extra TLC!

βœ… Brush Away Summer Shedding
Regular brushing helps remove loose fur, dirt, and debris that can build up during outdoor adventures.
βœ… Check Those Paws
Hot sidewalks, hiking trails, and backyard play can leave paws dry or irritated. Inspect paw pads and keep nails trimmed.
βœ… Clean Ears Regularly
Swimming and humidity can increase the risk of ear irritation. Be sure to keep ears clean and dry.
βœ… Look for Skin Issues
Check for hot spots, insect bites, dry skin, or any unusual bumps while grooming.
