🎆 New Year’s Eve Is Almost Here… and Your Cat Is NOT a Fan of the Fireworks 🎆
While we’re counting down to midnight, loud noises, guests, and sudden changes can be overwhelming (and downright scary) for our feline friends. Cats are masters at hiding stress — but New Year’s Eve is one of the most common times for anxiety-related issues and indoor cats sneaking outside unnoticed.
🐾 How to keep your cat safe and calm this New Year’s Eve:
🏠 Create a quiet, secure “safe room”
Choose a calm space away from doors and windows with your cat’s favorite bed, blankets, litter box, food, and water. Add white noise or soft music to help mask fireworks.
🐱 Give them space — and choices
Let your cat hide if they want. Avoid forcing affection. Boxes, covered beds, and familiar scents can provide comfort and security.
🚪 Doors closed = cats safe
With guests coming and going, cats can easily slip out unnoticed. Keep doors closed, post reminders for visitors, and consider placing your cat in their safe room before the festivities begin.
💊 Plan ahead for anxiety support
If your cat uses calming supplements or prescription anxiety medications, be sure to pick them up before the holiday. Waiting until the booms start can be too late.
📛 ID matters (even for indoor cats!)
Make sure collars, ID tags, and microchip information are current — just in case a scared kitty makes a dash for the door.
❤️ Stay calm & keep routines normal
Cats pick up on our energy. Stick to normal feeding times and keep things as low-key as possible.
A little preparation can make a huge difference in keeping your cat calm, comfortable, and safely indoors while we ring in the New Year. 🥂🐾
