What is with all those letters and names? Does your head scramble when you see FVRCP, RCP, Distemper Vaccine, Combo Shot, Core Shot and aren't really sure what that means?
Let's break it down fast!
๐ฑFVRCP/RCP/HCP/"Distemper" - All the same thing - this is a feline companion's core combination vaccine. It covers:
R - Rhinotracheitis
C - Calici
P - Panleukopenia
It is considered a series - and that means a cat should receive a minimum of 2 in three to four week successions to be considered complete and good for 1yr.*
-When it is boostered after 1yr, it's longevity depends on your cat's lifestyle, exposure, and risk.
And what about dogs? - they have a few more letters ::
๐ถ DAPPv/DHPP/5 way/Da2pp//DHLPP/"Distemper/Parvo" - All are very similar but a little bit different.. - this is a canine companion's core combination vaccine. It covers:
D - Distemper
A/H - Adenovirus type 1 and type 2/aka Hepatitis
L - Leptospirosis
P - Parainfluenza
P - Parvovirus
This too is considered a series - that means your dog needs a minimum of 2 in three to four week successions to be considered completed and good for 1 yr.*
*Kittens and puppies need more in their series to be protected!*
