Some dogs are ready to be your adventure buddy from day one. Johan is more interested in being your quiet little shadow.

This sweet 3-year-old Dachshund mix is a gentle, sensitive guy who takes a little time to trust new people. But once Johan decides you're his person, he really settles into that relationship. He loves being close, getting attention, and knowing that his people are nearby.

Right now, Johan is taking it easy while he goes through heartworm treatment, and he has become very good at making the most of his low-key lifestyle. His favorite activity is sitting by a window and watching the world go by. Every morning after breakfast, he waits to be picked up and placed in his person's lap so he can enjoy his neighborhood view. He even has a special chair downstairs dedicated to the important work of window watching.

Johan is house trained, loves treats, and is a sweet, loyal companion once he feels safe. Loud noises and sudden movements can startle him, so he would do best in a calm home without young children and with someone who understands that trust takes time.

Johan's heartworm treatment is covered by 4 Paws 4 Life at one of our partner veterinarians. Once he's medically cleared, he'll be ready to trade his window seat for walks, adventures, and all the good things waiting for him.

For now, he's just looking for someone patient enough to let him settle in and discover that he's finally safe.

Volunteer with us!

There are a lot of ways to help at 4 Paws 4 Life, and you don't have to be an animal expert to make a real difference.

Our volunteers help walk dogs, care for animals at our facility, transport pets to and from vet appointments, work adoption events, help with laundry and cleaning, take photos, create content, assist with fundraising, and plenty more. Right now, one of our biggest needs is weekday help getting animals to and from the vet.

And honestly, sometimes volunteering looks like something as simple as spending an hour with a dog who really needed someone to hang out with them.

You don't need a special skill set. You just need some time, compassion, and a willingness to help. There are opportunities for people with all kinds of schedules and interests.

If you've been thinking about getting more involved in animal rescue, this is your sign.

Carolina and her puppies are making their adoption event debut this Saturday, and judging by these photos, they are VERY excited about it.

Carolina is a 2-year-old Rottweiler mama who has done an incredible job raising her babies. Now that her puppy-raising days are behind her, she's ready for the next chapter: a forever home where she gets to be spoiled, loved, and someone's baby for a change. ❤️

Her puppies are 2 months old, ridiculously cute, and apparently incapable of taking a photo without wagging their entire bodies. 😂

Meet Maas! 🐾

At just 3 months old, Maas is already proving that you don't have to be the loudest puppy in the room to steal someone's heart.

This sweet puppy is an easygoing little girl who mostly just wants to be wherever her people are. She’s perfectly happy curled up beside you, watching whatever you're doing, or claiming her rightful spot as a tiny lap dog. Basically, if you’re there, Maas would like to be there too.

She’s doing well with the resident dog in her foster home and is learning all about this whole being-a-dog thing. She’s still working on potty training and getting the hang of the doggy door, but she’s making progress and will thrive with a consistent routine and a little patience.

Maas isn't necessarily the puppy who needs nonstop chaos and entertainment. She’s more of a little shadow, professional snuggler, and enthusiastic participant in whatever you're doing kind of girl. ❤️

Meet Leo! 🐾

Leo is an 11-month-old wiggle monster with approximately zero interest in sitting still when there’s fun to be had.

This happy guy has energy for days and absolutely LOVES playing with other dogs. He’s also a big fan of treats, which means that underneath all that puppy energy is a guy who can absolutely focus when there’s something delicious involved. He’s friendly, goofy, affectionate, and volunteers say he’s just about the cutest little dude ever.

Leo can get a little mouthy and rough when he plays, so he’d do best in a home without kids under 12 while he continues learning his manners.

We don't know everything about Leo yet, but we know there's a very fun dog hiding underneath all those wiggles.

Leo will be available to meet this Saturday from 10am-2pm at the Park Meadows PetCo - 9425 E County Line Rd, Englewood, CO 80112.
