Not every dog who comes through our program becomes a Service Dog, and that does not make their story any less meaningful.

Some of our Release Dogs go on to become beloved family pets. Some become certified therapy dogs. Some find their place as the perfect companion for someone who needed exactly them.

If you have been thinking about adding a dog to your family, our Release Dogs program might be the right fit. These are dogs who have already had a head start on training, socialization, and love, and they are ready for the right home.

Today, we remember.

Memorial Day is for the service members who gave everything, and for the families who carry their absence forward every day after.

At Retrieving Freedom, our work is shaped by that sacrifice. Every Service Dog we place with a Veteran is a small way of honoring the ones who served alongside them, and a promise that those who came home will not be forgotten either.

We are honored to do this work. We are humbled by the Veterans who trust us with it. And today, we pause to remember the ones who are no longer with us.

Three chapters. One mission.

This month, three Delta Waterfowl Foundation chapters showed up for our Veterans and our future Service Dogs in a big way:
- Jim River Marsh Masters Chapter: $2,237.50
- Cupped N' Committed Chapter: $1,450
- Full Limits Chapter: $1,687.50

Combined, that is more than $5,000 going directly into training and placing Service Dogs with the people who need them most.

Thank you to every Delta Waterfowl member who made these gifts possible. You are part of the reason we get to keep doing this work.

Some of our best training happens with college students in the room.

This month, our partners at the University of Missouri Service Dog Club held their bi-yearly class at our Missouri facility, working hands-on with our dogs and learning the foundations of Service Dog training.

We also brought the Stephens College and MU ROTC Impact Programs together for a combined session in Sedalia, giving students from both programs the chance to learn alongside one another.

These students are an essential part of how our dogs grow, learn, and prepare for the work ahead. They are also part of the next generation of advocates for what Service Dogs can do.

Amazon opened their new Sedalia facility on April 9, and they marked the day with a $10,000 gift to Retrieving Freedom.

We were honored to be part of the celebration alongside Governor Mike Kehoe, Mayor Andrew Dawson, and members of our team. Client Services Coordinator LaKisha Williams-Eckhoff shared the impact of our programs, and board member Kyle Herrick, Foster Coordinator Ashlyn Snyder, and Service Dog in training Idexx all joined in.

When a company chooses to anchor its welcome to a new community in support for Veterans and children with autism, that says something. Thank you, Amazon, for choosing us.

One volunteer. Two coasts. Three puppies.

This month, Tim flew to California to pick up Blu and Rico from Guide Dogs of America, then turned right around and drove to Michigan to bring home Flint. All three are now settling in with their puppy raisers and starting their journeys with us.

This is what behind-the-scenes looks like at Retrieving Freedom. Volunteers who show up, log the miles, and make sure the next generation of Service Dogs gets where they need to go.

Thank you, Tim. We could not do this without you.

If transporting puppies sounds like the kind of help you want to give, reach out to Bobbi at [email protected].

In the military, a challenge coin is a symbol. A mark of belonging, recognition, and pride in being part of something worth standing for.

Today, on Armed Forces Day, we honor every service member past and present who has carried that weight. And we want to introduce you to a Retrieving Freedom tradition inspired by that same spirit. Our Challenge Coin program.

It is a way for our community to carry the mission with them, and to invite others to do the same. The coin moves from hand to hand, with each new holder becoming part of a growing circle of monthly supporters who make our work possible. Monthly giving is what allows us to plan, train, and place Service Dogs with the Veterans and children who need them most.

To everyone who is serving or has served, thank you for the example you set. Today, we are carrying that forward in our own way.

Dan Collard is out there right now, pedaling mile after mile across the country, and he is not stopping until he reaches Canada.

The retired K9 officer from Michigan set out on May 7th with one goal: raise funds to place a Service Dog with a veteran or first responder battling PTSD. He has already covered hundreds of miles. Every rotation of those pedals represents something bigger than a bike ride.

For veterans living with PTSD, a trained Service Dog is not just a companion. It is stability. It is safety. It is a reason to get up in the morning.

Dan is riding so that one more veteran can have that. Follow his journey and add your support at retrievingfreedom.org/2500milesforonelife

A small-town event. A $35,000 check. A whole lot of future Service Dogs.

The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron #279 in Lawler, Iowa hosted their Stars & Stripes Spectacular event and presented us with $35,000 raised through the community's incredible effort.

That is the kind of generosity that funds training. That funds placements. That funds the moment a Veteran meets the dog who is going to change everything.

Thank you to Squadron #279 and to every neighbor, supporter, and volunteer who showed up to make it happen.

If your organization wants to host an event for Retrieving Freedom, we would love to talk. Visit retrievingfreedom.org to get in touch.
