Must have good computer literacy skills and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. They will be expected to be able to handle multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously while working in a busy environment and must pay attention to detail. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds, spell and write legibly. Must be willing to learn. Professional appearance is required, scrubs are to be worn while working. Must be able to work all shifts, including nights and weekends (Saturdays). Veterinary receptionist will be required to be at work when scheduled and be on time. Must be able to calmly handle stressful situations and triage patients. They must be able to work independently and harmoniously in a group. All time off is subject to the approval by the practice manager. Upon hiring, all new employees will be subject to a 30-day probationary period during which time employment may be terminated as determined by management. All aforementioned requirements are subject to change by the employer at any time.
Essential Functions:
Reception Duties:
• Answer phone calls which may include questions and screening
• Schedule appointments
• Process incoming patients
• Process financial transactions
• Handles emails and faxes-incoming and outgoing
• Enter data into practice software
• Prepare bank deposits
• Balance cash drawer
• Fill and retrieve prescriptions
• Maintain cleanliness of waiting room
• Understand medical protocols i.e. vaccinations, heartworm, surgical, etc.
• Communicate value of procedures, products, and protocols
• Collect and record and samples dropped off by clients for a**lysis
• Prepare all medical forms
• Help gather content for social media
• Assist veterinarian and technician as assigned
Work Environment:
Small animal hospital, work in front and back, high level of client interaction, exposure to x-rays and anesthetic gases with proper protective measures. Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases and possible hazardous materials.
