I was lucky enough to do a few shoe building and blacksmithing demos at the Flywheelers Antique and Tractor show yesterday. It was quite the experience, good times were had and I got to hang out with a Forged in Fire finalist. Looking forward to the next one later this fall!

After 2 decades of being a full time farrier, it's pretty common to develop long term clients and even longer term horses that just switch owners. Yesterday, I shod Shadow for my last time as he will be moving to the DC area in February. He has been in my schedule for over 9 years. He has been a practice horse for my CJF gos, building straight bars for a bilateral white line issue, and just recently for AFA Convention Contest practice as he wears 12" of 3/8x3/4 very well. I've watched this horse age gracefully over the last few years, survive colic surgery, a nerve damaging kick to the hip and a host of other horse related injuries. It's time for him to move on to the next stage of his life and I hope he is as good for the next farrier as he has been for me. While at Convention in Chattanooga, I had asked Mr. Glenn Reese to rework my 20 year old Jim Keith fire tong set. He went above and beyond making those tongs grip better than the used to and by sending a pair of his own hot fits to replace the pair I had stolen. I appreciate the love this trade shares.
