We have not put him with other dogs. He just paces and circles all day in his kennel. Please text 330-261-3934 if you can give Lumberjack a home. Needs a home ASAP!!!

Please stop to read this. It is ever so true. I do apologize for the profanity in the end, couldn’t edit it out But it states reality for all of us shelter workers killing ourselves to clean up everyone else’s neglect and failure for the animals we receive on a daily basis.

There’s something else we see constantly on local pages that we need to also talk about.

When someone mentions taking a animal to the shelter, it doesn’t take long before the comments start:

💬“𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳.”
💬“𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘭𝘭 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘪𝘵.”
💬“𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦.”

We get it. People are frustrated. 𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼. The animal crisis we’re in is heartbreaking, exhausting and honestly infuriating at times.

But that frustration is too often directed at the people left dealing with a problem they didn’t create.

The shelter staff.

They’re the ones forced to face the reality of it every single day.

𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻-𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀.

💔They take the unwanted ones.
💔The neglected ones.
💔The injured ones.
💔The terrified ones.
💔The accidental litters.
💔The senior pets someone no longer wants.
💔The animals who have gone years without basic veterinary care.

And when every kennel is full, 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚.

The shelter staff didn’t put those animals in this position. They didn’t neglect them. They didn’t abandon them. They didn’t allow them to reproduce over and over again.

But they’re the people standing at the end of the line dealing with the consequences of other people’s actions. (👈🏼 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡)

‼️They’re the ones cleaning the kennels.
‼️They’re the ones trying to gain the trust of the terrified dog or cat someone failed.
‼️They’re the ones caring for kittens that never should have been born into an already overwhelmed system.
‼️They’re the ones trying to find adopters, rescues and fosters when everyone else is full too.
‼️They’re the ones who see the fallout up close.

😮‍💨They see what neglect looks like.
😮‍💨They see what abandonment looks like.
😮‍💨They see what uncontrolled breeding looks like.
😮‍💨They see what happens when people wait too long to ask for help.
😮‍💨And they’re the ones who sometimes have to make decisions none of us would ever want to make.

Imagine loving animals enough to choose this work and then being blamed for the very crisis you’re trying to manage.

Would you want that job?
Because someone has to do it.

✅Spay and neuter your pets.
✅Be responsible pet owners.
✅Educate your friends, family and neighbors.
✅Volunteer at your local shelter.
✅Adopt. Foster. Donate.

And when you see the people who show up every single day to care for the animals someone has failed?

Support them. See them. Thank them. Give them some grace.
