Alumni pup Andi accompanied us on a historic walking tour of downtown and was SUCH a good girl.

Andi has always been a little nervous in new places but her parents have been taking her on adventures and working on her training skills since the beginning. Their hard work is paying off!

Andi was an A student on the tour and was able to calmly chill on her mat during each stop. She received several compliments and we were so proud. 🤗

Great tips for your Halloween!

Halloween Pet Safety Tips from Synergy 👻

🎃 Make sure your pets are wearing their collars with up-to-date tags. If they're microchipped, confirm the microchip information is also correct! If they aren't micrpchipped, please consider having it done, as collars can break.
🎃 Put a playpen or baby gate at your front door to prevent door-dashing as your trick-or-treaters arrive. If you don't have one, set up a chair for yourself outside instead!
🎃 Don't force costumes on your pets if they're uncomfortable.
🎃 Keep candy, flames, and decorations out of reach and inaccessible. We don't want any accidents or ER trips!
🎃 If you're going out, keep your pets at home. Costumes, screaming kiddos, and all of the chaos can be extremely stressful.

We have a special guest training helper for Echo this week! Meet Petrie the Indian Star Tortoise 🐢 ❤️He is helping us reduce Echo’s arousal in the presence of live tortoises so he can keep his brain “online” and perform his job. Right now I just want Echo to learn that live tortoise = treat party. Then we will start reducing the size of the container that Petrie is in which will increase Echo’s arousal making it harder for him to leave Petrie.This gradual process will reduce Echo’s overexcitement towards Petrie and should make it easier for him to be around his target species without blowing his mind. 🤯 Petrie is very accustomed to dogs so he doesn’t seemed bothered at all with being gawked at by Echo!

Unpopular Opinion: intense working breed dogs do not belong in the average American pet home! I know some of you will say you have a Mali or a Corso that is so chill and great with your kids but the reality is, many are not. And the majority of ppl who decide to get one have no idea how much work and structure these dogs need to thrive. The breed descriptions online will have you believing that with “proper socialization” these dogs will be friendly with guests and strangers but this is misleading. Many of these dogs become wary if not defensive towards unfamiliar ppl when they reach adolescence and then social maturity. It’s literally in their genetic make up!! The reality is, you can’t train everything out of a dog. And most average pet dog owners barely have the time to train an “easy” puppy to be a stable and well-behaved adult. Let alone a high energy working dog. This is NOT a dig at the average dog parent! I myself barely find the time to train my own dog so I totally understand why it’s tough. If you’re thinking of getting a new dog, take your time and reach out to a pro for help! I always love the opportunity to consult with someone BEFORE they get their pup.

Our Goldstar students aren’t just learning obedience, they’re learning how to be confident, social pups who can enjoy life with their friends. From adventures at the academy to exciting field trips, every outing is a chance to practice manners, explore new environments, and strengthen bonds. 💛

Seeing the joy on their faces as they play, train, and grow together is what it’s all about!
