Meow Meow, a loving stray cat from Florida, was abandoned by her family when they moved away. But neighbors stepped up to care for the friendly feline, who became a beloved community cat who loved to be petted and cuddle with everyone in the neighborhood.

“She would visit the neighbors to receive pets and was known for placing her paws on your chest and giving gentle head nudges if you were having a bad day/sad,” the Humane Society of Tampa Bay wrote on Facebook.

But not everyone in the neighborhood was worthy of the cat’s affection. One day, Meow Meow was attacked by two kids who thought it was fun to throw the cat into the air by her legs, and then slam her onto the ground. The children clearly delighted in torturing the animal, because they repeated their cruel game several times.

“Each time she hit the ground she was discombobulated, dizzy and unable to walk without falling,” outraged shelter staff recalled. “It was impossible for her to run away fast enough to escape.”

Every once in a while, if you are lucky, a dog comes along that changes your life. He was found in an Arkansas ditch, a discarded and broken carcass. In 2010, at three years old, he was another casualty from a dog fighting ring.

Heart-worm positive, a bum back leg, and a bullet embedded in his now meaty thigh were just a few of his battle scars. I stopped counting puncture wounds when I got to a hundred. More than fifty razor slices were carved into the back half of his body.

His blood fueled the dogs for the next fight as he was tossed into the ring and dragged back out again by a metal cord around his hind leg...

Would you pull over to help an injured animal on the side of the road?

Tigger showed up outside my home, wounded from fighting with another cat and suffering from an upper respiratory infection. I’m a vet tech and took him to the clinic for treatment. While he was recovering, a coworker inquired about adopting him. I agreed happily, as I thought he would be going with someone who would give him a forever home. He was a sweet, older orange tabby who transformed from street fighter to complete love bug once he had a warm bed and a full tummy. He was named Tigger by my coworker’s young daughter.

I had microchipped him in my name, but when he went home with my coworker, I changed the information to hers. A few days after she took him home, I suddenly had a nagging, unpleasant feeling that I should change the microchip info back to mine. This feeling came out of the blue, and persisted with disturbing intensity until I called the microchip company and changed the information. As soon as I had done this, the gloomy feeling evaporated. In the meantime, the coworker left for another job. I told her that if she could ever no longer keep Tigger, to contact me and I would take him back.

Five years down the road, I came home to a voicemail message from a local shelter, stating that an orange cat had been put into their overnight drop box with some paperwork that showed he was no longer mine, but because of the microchip, could I please come in and sign him over so they could put him up for adoption? I immediately remembered the sense of doom I had and the urgent feeling that I needed to have the microchip information in my name. Was that feeling due to Tigger trying to let me know that all was not well for him? I will never know, but I have to believe that it was.

He came home with me the next day and was part of my life for another 10 years. His face had the sadness of abandonment on it, but this was gradually replaced by a mischievous but gentle personality. We went through a lot together: a house flood, a few job changes, bunches of rescue kittens (he insisted on bathing them and supervising their feedings), and his battle with diabetes. He passed away from complications of renal failure at the ripe old age of 22 years.

He was the Old Man of the house and was never very far from me physically or spiritually, and I am so glad that I listened to the nagging feeling that I'm sure he sent me regarding the microchip. It meant the difference between us being reunited, and him disappearing into a crowded shelter.

I will love you and miss you forever, Old Man of the house!

Imagine rescuing what you thought was a cute little kitten, only for it to turn out to be a wild animal? That is exactly what happened to one woman in Argentina after she took her “kitten” to the veterinarian.

Florencia Lobo explained to Reuters that the mix up occurred when she was in the northwest Argentinian province of Tucumán with her brother. The pair had made the sad discovery of two kittens beside a deceased adult cat.

“We thought that it was an abandoned cat who had given birth,” she told Reuters.

Florencia also noted that the female kitten didn’t survive, but the male kitten – who she named Tito – did.

While everything appeared to be going well with Tito’s health, she was in for quite the shock two months later when she took him to a vet appointment. That is where she learned that Tito wasn’t at all a regular house cat like she’d originally thought.
“The vet didn’t know what it was but said it was not a normal cat,” She said.

Florencia added that the vet’s office gave her the number of a local nature reserve.
Following her getting in touch with the Horco Molle Nature Reserve, it was confirmed that Tito was in fact, a jaguarundi. Jaguarundis are actually a small type of wild cat who are native to both North and South America.

Their full scientific name is Puma Yagouaroundi. And while their name sounds large and impressive, they’re actually just slightly larger than your average housecat. As reported by the Texas Parks & Wildlife’s website, jaguarundis will normally weight between 8-16 pounds.

But there is a happy ending for Tito. As Reuters informs us, Tito is doing well under the care of the nature reserve, and there are plans to someday release him back into his natural habitat.

A few days before Easter one year, my mom called to tell me that a small kitten had wandered into her yard. I already had two cats, yet I felt as if I needed to give this little kitty a home.

Mom was going to try to catch the kitten and feed it until I could get home for Easter. Unfortunately, she was unable to catch the kitten and had not seen it since, and thus assumed it had found another home. I was quite disappointed and was unable to stop thinking about this little kitty. I shrugged it off and figured it was not meant to be.

On Easter weekend, my parents and I were going to meet at my grandmother's to have dinner. My parents live about 60 miles from my grandmother. They had a few errands to run, including a trip to the grocery store, a cellular provider, and Walmart.

When my parents arrived at my grandmother's house, I ran out to help them with the groceries. I heard this faint meow, and out from under their truck came this dusty little kitten, who promptly ran right up to me.

My mom said, "Oh my! That is the kitten that was in the yard the other day!" The kitten had ridden over 60 miles on the spare tire under the truck. My parents were shocked, as they were at some stores for almost an hour, yet the kitten never left her hiding place.

The kitten was all tail and legs with an adorable heart-shaped nose. Her tail was ringed like a lemur, which didn't feel right to name her. Instead, I named her Monkey.

When I was leaving to go back home, I opened my car door, and Monkey ran and jumped in. (Something you do not usually see with a cat!) She slept in my lap the whole two hours home, and has been part of my family ever since.

Little is known about the very beginning of Winkie’s life, but he certainly has had some rough early years. When he was young, he was hit by a car, which broke his back, bent his nasal cavity, chipped off some of his teeth, and stole his sight. When he was brought to the vet, one of his eyes had to be removed completely. The other is still intact but is marbleized and mostly (or possibly entirely) useless. He now walks with a sort of hopping limp, has a snaggletooth, and needs nasal medication at times to help him breathe.

Sadly, Winkie’s owners never showed up to collect their pet or pay his bills, so he sat caged up at the veterinarian’s office for years...
