Looking for home for a two year full breed neutered Bernese Mountain Dog.
Hello Facebook Friends and Family. We are looking for a new home for a very special, timid, anxious, non violent Bernese Mountain Dog Bentley.
Bentleys ideal home would be where is his the only dog. Cats are okay. Bentley is great with people and kids.
Why are we looking for a new home? We have two Bernese Mountain Dogs. Unfortunately Bentley has the equivalent of Autism and ADD sprinkled with anxiety. Bentley is CLUELESS to the social cues of other dogs. (Oh hey you are snarling, growling, and showing your teeth. To Bentley that means the other dog must need a hug or thinks they want a chest bump..as you can see that can go wrong pretty quickly. )
We have worked with our vet to help address some of his behaviors and he settled down a bit with medication but continues to be socially clueless with Diesel our other Bernese Mountain dog. Diesel will eventually snap back (with plenty of cues) which then causes a fight. Bentley will then fight back and once they are separated will want to snuggle with his bestie Diesel and will continue go up to Diesel with the body language equivalent of Dogs that says I LOVE you.
As you can see two big 120 pound dogs can be a bit problematic and unpredictable. This is why Bentley needs to be in a home as an only dog. He respects cats and when he forgets that he isn’t supposed to chase the cat can be easily stopped with a “Bentley knock it off.”
We have hit a point with the stress that we need to find a new home for Bentley NOW. It is what is best for Bentley and Diesel and the stress it is causing. Bentley doesn’t have an aggressive or violent bone in his body. He is just clueless.
I don’t want to take him to the Humane Society. This environment would cause Bentley to shut down. He has made Leaps and Bounds since we got him at six months old. We have done a lot of work with Bentley to build his confidence, set boundaries and train with a rewards based training. Bentley is a very sensitive and sweet boy. His ideal home will work with him and his anxiety. I would recommend his new home at minimum work with Tails a Waggin to take the classes offered on Canine Body Language. (If you have a dog of any kind in your life this class is a must. )**they are tagged in this post so you can reach out. ***
I would love to get Bentley into a new home this weekend. I have delayed posting this because we LOVE Bentley and it breaks my heart but loving him and Diesel is also setting them up for success with the right environment.
I’m not asking a rehoming fee. Instead of a rehoming fee I would prefer you work with Tails a Waggin to understand Canine Body Language and how to work with Bentley. Bentley does well on a leash and walks. For his safety and others he will never be a dog park dog. A socially clueless dog in a dog park is an accident waiting to happen.
Please message me and SHARE this post. Bentley will not be given to any family. New homes will be screened.
Thank you!
