Juniper, seen here with Licensed Vet Tech Selena, came to the TVES ER after her, and her brother Felix, got into Ibuprofen. Here Selena is administering Toxiban (activated charcoal) to help absorb the toxins in the NSAIDs before Juniper absorbs them herself. Juniper and Felix then stayed in TVES ICU for a few days on IV fluids and other gastroprotection medications. They had repeat bloodwork performed to confirm that any Ibuprofen they did ingest was not causing damage to their kidneys and liver. These mischievous pups were discharged home to their family and advised to stay away from medications not prescribed to them by a licensed veterinarian.
If you suspect your dog has gotten into NSAIDs contact your veterinarian immediately. While mostly safe for humans in dogs NSAIDs can cause liver, kidney and neurological damage. Always keep medications out of reach of pets, and call your veterinarian before giving OTC medications to your pets at home.
