How to keep your dog calm for a grooming appointment 🐾 Tips from professional groomers
Keeping your dog calm for a grooming session starts at home. If you have an anxious dog, you may want to consider trying some of these techniques.
We recommend starting off slowly and trying to create positive associations with grooming. Treats & praise work wonders! Noise may be a trigger for some dogs, so if you have access to tools such as clippers or a blow dryer, you may want to practice getting them used to that noise so they’re not surprised when they come in to see us. Dogs may also be surprised when we touch sensitive areas such as behind the ears or armpits. Practice gentle touches at home to de-sensitize & let them know it’s safe. Lastly, if your dog suffers from unmanageable anxiety, you may consider speaking to your vet about whether calming aids can be helpful.
