This shy guy is Doc. He lived kind of a rough and tumble life as an indoor/outdoor cat in his 1.5 years. He needed some medical attention when he first came to the shelter but is doing well now.
He is timid as he adjusts to shelter life; but sit with him a minute or two and he warms up. He's got a heart of gold under that rough exterior and he is quickly becoming a favorite. ❤️

I had a heart to heart with foster mom and told her I should grow out my fur and style it like P*e Wee. Then people will say how cute I am. And then maybe I’ll get some adoption applications and finally find my family!

Fosters needed immediately!! 3 white young kitties were dumped at the Covina colony we’ve been trapping at. They are estimated to be 6 months old and are getting vetting tomorrow. Both are expected to be girls as males were seen mounting them. There is a 3rd white one that we were unable to trap but will go back for. Please reach out if you can foster!

Posted • 💥Newsflash💥 Bill is now Billie and who knew? Billie is a girl. 🧡 Sure surprised me. But anyway...
I don't think Billie actually remembers me, but I know *I* have a connection with her. Today when we chatted thru the kennel door she gave me the sweet "mew" again. I have no hesitance opening her kennel door. So did that and she came right to me. Once again sniffed the latex glove and went "ew!" Don't tell anyone, but I trashed the glove for a minute and she immediately came to me, sniffed my hand - close enough that I felt her nose and whiskers.
Omg - I had a tear.
I took about a million photos of her. Lots with the kennel door open but the ones that make me smile, make me laugh, tug on my heartstrings are the ones I take thru the kennel door. She kept coming back to the door to beg for attention.
I am so smitten with this kitten. 💛🧡💛

A devoted little shadow
A sound sleeper who enjoys lazy mornings
A couch companion
A ridiculously droopy face when she first wakes up
Little taps and smiles for walks and food

Coco can easily keep herself entertained while at home with a kong, she will rearrange her dog bed however your furniture is safe! Also her bedtime routine includes ‘digging’ up the blankets to get them just right. She may snore quite a bit for her size but it sure is cute!

If you are looking for a dog to keep you active, Coco is your gal! At one point we took her to get breakfast and she walked 1.5 miles with ease. Coco also loves going on her neighborhood walks. Did we mention that she even rides well in a car? Do be mindful that she might try to become copilot at first though!

Coco loves attention but the attention must be on her terms. Although she is sensitive to touch, she loves being around people and will always try to be in the same room as you. During her time with us it took her about two days to start warming up, but she was playing fetch with us and her stuffed hedgehog in no time.

Coco does not like steps, so a ramp is a good alternative and it’s a plus she already knows how to use one.

She has such a big personality and will provide her future family with entertainment and lots of love!”

Posted • Blanko is looking for his home! This incredibly affectionate and aloof boy has passed his CGC exam. He is one of our most handsome boys, and also a favorite of the program. Blanko has had everything against him, he was abandoned to a local shelter. He stayed at the shelter overlooked for weeks. But when he’s given the opportunity he excels. He flourished at the ranch and had to drive to please that you rarely see in a dog. He was made a Pawsitive Change candidate where is he again Proved his adaptability and rose to be one of the best dogs in the program. The last thing Blanko needs is for a special family to step up and give this special boy his forever home.

Oh this boy.
Someone cared enough about this darling 10 year old boy to bring him to the shelter as a stray. If he looks a little "wide-eyed" it is because I took this photo as he was recovering some a minor dental procedure.
He is so affectionate and so darn cute - he just wanted to jump outta' that kennel and hug me. Oh, people... he's a keeper!

Here’s another senior who’s been waiting to be noticed at Downey. “Fuego” was likely dumped around Thanksgiving to accommodate someone’s vacation plans and here he is, with Christmas around the corner, still waiting for a loving and faithful family to come for him.

Fuego’s status is “Ready to Go Home”, which usually means he has no significant health or behavioral concerns. He’s even already neutered. As a senior, he probably has the typical dental and cloudy eye conditions, which I suspect is why he’s noted as “Minor Medical”. I’ll update if I can get more details on his medical.
