Belle, my sweet jelly roll boarder, has lost a wee bit of weight and I swear there’s a hint of a brief gallop in this video! 😂😍

And Belle, my porky sweet potato boarder, inched her way up to almost a 3/4 mile walk tonight! She’s winded for sure, but she’s loving the aerobic activity.

My boarder, Belle, needs to learn how to consistently use p*e pads before she moves with her mom to an assisted living facility. This is the set-up I created to help her succeed. Too much freedom, when I can’t supervise, will lead to mistakes, so I’m managing her space right now.

Belle is with me for training, but she also arrived with talon-like nails in much need of trimming. Before I use the dremel, I need to get her relaxed about the sound, so I’ll be pairing it with something she likes. Right now, physical attention is my only option as she’s not taking treats.
Notice her lip lick and yawn — clear signs of stress, so I’m going to take things nice and slow, and will add some more distance, too, to reduce the sound.

I have a unique board and train situation coming up this week. A sweet beagle named Belle will be here to learn how to eliminate in a specific potty zone indoors because she will soon move with her mom to assisted living. Her mom won’t be able to walk her frequently enough, thus the backup potty plan.
I love that dogs are welcome to remain with a family member when moving to such a facility, continuing to provide love and companionship to their person. 🥰

Exciting news - my former foster rat, Treasure, has a girlfriend! 🥰

The rescue group has found that when they pair a very human-fearful rat like Treasure with a more human-social one, the fearful rat’s confidence can grow.

I’m so happy he finally has a companion he can feel safe with!

Treasure is the white rat in the pic’s background. He and his gal are available for adoption through Second Chance Hero’s Rat Rescue.

My foster rat, Treasure, was very fearful. He came from a horrendous hoarding situation and had no positive socialization. At first, all he'd do was hide in a box. But I became the steady provider of yummy food. I also gradually introduced him to enrichment in the form of simple food puzzles and I created lots of interesting places in his cage to explore, when he felt safe to do so.

He now waits eagerly for me to approach him in the cage (no more hiding) and is able to take food from my hand. He loves his food puzzles and they have become gradually more challenging. Last week, I added a penned area (attached to his cage), leaving the cage door open so he could explore when he felt safe.

Last night, I left some brown strips of paper in the penned area to see if he'd do what so many of my behaviorally healthy rats have done in the past, which is to transport them into the cage (like a nesting behavior). I was so excited to see the strips had indeed been moved last night!

Treasure is beginning to feel safe enough to move and behave in more normal ways and that makes me so happy.

He is available for adoption through: https://www.facebook.com/secondchancerats
