🦴🐶 What’s That Rough Patch on Your Dog’s Elbow? 🐶🦴

If you’ve noticed a thick, dark, or rough spot on your dog’s elbow — you’re not alone. Those are elbow calluses, and they’re pretty common in larger breeds or dogs who love to flop on hard floors.

🛋️ What causes them?Repeated pressure from laying on hard surfaces (like tile or concrete).

💡 Are they dangerous?Usually not — but they can crack, bleed, or get infected if left untreated.

✅ What helps?• Soft bedding or padded mats• Moisturizing balms• Vet care if the callus becomes open or irritated

It’s a small thing, but a little cushioning can go a long way in keeping your pup comfy. 💚

🧪🐾 Why Are Blood Samples Rocked? 🩸

That gentle rocking motion keeps the blood from clotting by mixing it with a chemical called EDTA — which helps preserve it for testing.

🐶💪 Bulldogs: Squishy Faces, Big Personalities

Don’t let the wrinkles fool you — Bulldogs are full of strength, charm, and a little bit of stubbornness. Here are some fun facts about these lovable couch potatoes:

💪 Bred for bravery – Originally used in bull-baiting (yikes), today’s Bulldogs are lovers, not fighters.

🐾 They have a hard time swimming – That thick chest and short snout? Not great for staying afloat. Bulldogs are not natural swimmers — always keep them close to shore!

🦴Their nose rope (wrinkle above the nose) traps moisture and bacteria – It’s cute, but it needs cleaning regularly to avoid infection.

🐶They regulate heat poorly – Bulldogs don’t pant efficiently. Even mild heat and excitement can lead to overheating.

They may be low to the ground, but their personality is larger than life. Got a Bulldog? Drop their name and favorite nap spot below 👇

💧🐾 Is Your Pet Dehydrated? Here’s How to Tell. 🐾💧

👅 Gum CheckLift the lip and touch their gums. Healthy gums should be moist and slick, not dry or tacky. Pale or sticky gums are a red flag.

🧪 Capillary Refill TestGently press your finger on their gum until it turns white, then release. The color should return in under 2 seconds. If it’s slower, they may be dehydrated.

🐾 Skin TentingGently pinch the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades and let go. In a well-hydrated pet, the skin should snap back quickly. If it stays tented or falls slowly, that’s a sign of dehydration.

😴 Lethargy or WeaknessTired, low-energy pets who seem “off” may be dehydrated — especially if paired with panting, vomiting, or diarrhea.

🥤 Reduced Appetite or Water IntakeIf your pet isn’t drinking like usual, they may already be behind on fluids. Monitor closely.

🚽 Sunken Eyes or Dry NoseThese can also be subtle signs, especially in cats.

If you’re ever unsure — we can check hydration levels in minutes. Catching dehydration early helps prevent serious complications. 💚

🐶💧 Bladder infections aren’t always obvious — but this little pup was giving us all the clues.

Frequent accidents, straining to p*e, or going tiny amounts at a time? These are classic signs of a UTI (urinary tract infection).

💡 In this case, we had to use an ultrasound to find the bladder — it was nearly empty from going so often!

UTIs are uncomfortable and can worsen fast — but with the right care, your pup will be feeling better in no time. 💚

🗣️🐶 What Your Dog Is Telling You When They Throw Up 🤢🐾

It’s not just a mess on the floor — vomiting is one of the ways your dog says, “Something’s not right.” Here’s what it could mean:

🍽️ I ate too fast – Gulping food or water can lead to quick regurgitation.

🧼 My stomach’s upset – A sudden diet change or spoiled treat might be the cause.

🌿 I ate something I shouldn’t have – Grass, a toy, or even a sock (yes, really).

🦠 I might be sick – Infections or underlying conditions often cause repeated vomiting.

☠️ I may have ingested something toxic – Even small amounts of certain foods or meds can be dangerous.

⚠️ One-time vomit? Keep an eye out.
Multiple episodes or other symptoms? Call us right away.

We’re here to help figure out what your dog’s trying to say — and how to help them feel better. 💚

🐍🐾 Snake Bite… or Something Else? What to Do When Your Dog’s Paw Swells 🐾🐍

We recently treated a pup with a swollen, painful leg and a fever. The owners suspected a snake bite — but there were no fang marks, and no snake in sight. 👀

⚠️ Here’s what we found:• Just one puncture (not the usual two from a snake)• The wound was infected• Swelling extended up the leg• No signs of trauma in the environment

🧪 Possible causes:• Spider bite• Scratch or bite from another pet• Self-inflicted wound from chewing

💉 What we did:We shaved and cleaned the area, examined the wound, started anti-inflammatory meds, and monitored for infection. With fast care, this pup is on the mend. 💚

🐾 What YOU Should Do If You Notice:

• Sudden swelling of a paw or limb• Puncture wounds, redness, or heat• Lethargy or fever

📞 Call your vet immediately. Bites can worsen quickly — even if you didn’t see what caused it.

Better safe than sorry. Fast treatment prevents infection and reduces pain. We're always here to help.

🦷🐶 DOG DENTAL CARE: MORE THAN JUST FRESH BREATH!

Did you know 80% of dogs over age 3 have dental disease? It’s one of the most common (and most ignored) health problems we see at The Waggin’ Train. Here’s what every pet parent should know:
😷 Bad breath isn’t “normal” – It’s often the first sign of gum disease or infection. Bacteria in the mouth can travel to the heart, kidneys, and liver.

🪛 Extractions are common when disease is advanced.
Severely damaged teeth often need to be pulled to prevent ongoing pain or infection. Professional dental exams remove plaque under the gumline—where disease hides.

🪥 Brushing really matters – Even 2–3 times a week can cut down tartar and prevent infection. Small breeds are especially vulnerable due to crowded teeth. If your dog has a tiny mouth and big breath, it’s time for a check-up!

Book your dog’s dental exam today—because a healthy mouth = a healthier pup! 💛
