Star left for his new home today! We are so excited for this pair :)
Star came to us as a very loved owner surrender whose dental issues required a higher level of maintenance than the average horse. By his mid teens, his upper molars are so worn he simply can't eat hay well enough to maintain his condition and requires a full senior/pelleted diet. We believe him to be a Saddlebred/Arabian cross given his body type and build, which also can be a breed that requires extra calories just to maintain due to their high metabolism. That means Star requires typically twice a day feeding of a large amount of pelleted high calorie feed. As their children got older and more active, it was becoming harder for them to maintain his level of care, so they reached out to see if we could help him. Three different people reached out - including two people coming to the farm - to make sure he could come in! This is a family that loves and cared for him deeply.
Star is thriving, is shiny and gaining weight well, and recently saw his vet (we use the same ones they did) who was pleased with how he's doing. Meanwhile, Danielle came out to meet Ruth, and as always, we introduced her to a few others. Star instantly liked her and turns out she was looking for a cuddly horse. While I wouldn't have though Star was a cuddler, he is with her, and he clearly has chosen her as his next person. Good news is she chose him back and after coming out twice to visit him, took him home today.
His previous family was able to come out this weekend and spend time with him again, and they are happy for his new opportunity. While I was a bit more emotional than expected (sending them to homes, even great ones, can be hard when you see horses as individuals and care for them as much as your own, not just as inventory or numbers) I am thrilled for Star. He's going to love all the attention!
Happy adoption day, Star & Danielle!
