🌟 Update! 🌟

This past weekend we headed west for mid-training check-ins near Rapid City—and had an amazing time catching up with Cocoa and his trainer, Rachel Lund!

Cocoa is approximately 10–12 years old and is absolutely thriving in training. He’s had a serious glow-up and is looking fantastic! Rachel has been focused on building his confidence and refining his skills—and it’s paying off.

💫 Currently working at the walk, trot, and canter
💫 Practicing extensions, bend, and softness—all bitless, since Cocoa is still working through some bit-related sensitivity
💫 Stands quietly for grooming, tacking, fly spray, and cross ties
💫 Leads, lunges, and loads like a pro

With over 6 weeks to go before the Dakota Showdown Finale, this team is one to watch! 👀

🐴 Cocoa will be available for adoption to approved adopters through a bidding process on August 24, 2025, at the Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge Finale in Yankton, SD.

We are in Rapid City visiting the West River Dakota Showdown trainers for mid-training check-ins and photos/videos. Yesterday we had the pleasure of spending time with - Bryan Roselles and 3-yr-old Eloise.

This Showcase team is one to watch! This young horse is smart and growing into a solid mare. She loads and ties like she's done it her whole life, has a solid foundation, and is started under saddle. She's doing well and starting to express an opinion, as all young, green horses do. Bryan is doing a fabulous job with her start!

Eloise will be available for adoption at the Dakota Showdown Finale on August 24, 2025 in Yankton, SD, through a bidding process to approved adopters. We recommend an intermediate or advanced level rider with the skills to continue her training OR investing in additional training (talk to Bryan about continuing training at his "additional month" rate instead of his "first month" rate!) as she is a young horse who will be nicely started but still green.

We have a HUGE announcement. Dewey (3-yr-old BLM mustang gelding) has been moved up into the Showcase Division!

Dewey was the first to seek touch, even on the trailer ride home. He is friendly and enjoys people and would prefer to be with you than not. He's willing but also smart and picks things up quickly. We suspected his division would change, and with his trainer Alexis Louis he is so much closer to the Showcase horses than the Foundation horses that we are excited to move him up. Do NOT miss this boy!

Dewey’s Current Skills:
⭐ Catching, leading, and tying
⭐ Stands for grooming and fly spray
⭐ Picks up feet for the farrier
⭐ Accepts a saddle and is being ponied on the trails
⭐ Moves haunches and shoulders
⭐ Has been backed ba****ck

Dewey has gone from a feral BLM mustang picked up from the corrals in January to all this in such a short time. Imagine where he'll be in two months with Alexis' patient and caring hands!

Dewey will be available for adoption to approved adopters through a bidding process on August 24, 2025 at the Dakota Showdown Finale in Yankton, SD. Don't miss the chance to adopt him!

has had a bit tougher time than others as Twister simply didn't want to give in for that last bit of touch and haltering. Times like that really show the diversity of a trainer as they have to adapt and try different (and sometimes new) methods to find what works! Beth's tenacity has really shown through and I'm happy to report as of today Twister is accepting the halter!

Twister will be available for adoption to approved adopters through a bidding process on August 24, 2025 at the Dakota Showdown Finale in Yankton, SD. Be sure and follow all the pages if he's caught your eye so you don't miss your chance to adopt!
