Fall is the perfect season to plant Solomon’s Seal. As the days cool and the soil still holds warmth, roots establish themselves quietly underground, preparing for vigorous growth come spring. Planting now gives Solomon’s Seal the best start — allowing it to root deeply, rest through winter, and return with strength and vitality when the seasons turn.

For support in your planting journey, we’re excited to share our Solomon’s Seal Root Wisdom Virtual Plant Immersion Course — a 4-module journey into the healing power of this remarkable root. Guided by herbalist Emily Springer of Meeting House Farm and Infusion Herb Company, you’ll learn how to grow, harvest, and work with Solomon’s Seal to support the body’s systems.

Through four 20–30 minute video modules (plus PDFs), you’ll discover:

🌿How to plant, tend, and prepare Solomon’s Seal

We’re thrilled to welcome two wonderful new Farm Hands to our team — Emerentia and Ellen! You’ll see them out in the fields, lending their hands and hearts to the rhythm of the farm as they help with weeding, and harvesting flowers, leaves, and roots. Their energy and care are already such a gift, and we’re so excited to have them growing alongside us this season.

Broadleaf sage (Salvia officinalis), a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae), is a perennial known for its soft, gray-green, velvety leaves. Unlike the common narrow-leaf varieties, broadleaf sage offers wider, more rounded foliage and a gentler flavor. Long associated with wisdom, clarity, and longevity, sage has been revered since ancient times—its very name comes from the Latin salvare, meaning “to save” or “to heal.”

Traditionally valued for supporting digestion, soothing sore throats, and strengthening memory, it has also held a special place in kitchens, where its mild taste makes it a versatile culinary herb. While white sage is traditionally used for incense and smudging, it can't be grown in the northeast - broadleaf sage is more versatile and can also be used in as incense.

Our Herbal Marketplace offers sage from a number of farms in our herb grower collaborative:

🌿Garden Sage from Woven Hearts Herb Farm

🌿Clary Sage from Horsetail Herb Farm

🌿Clary Sage Hydrosol from Moonrise Meadows Farm

🌿Culinary Dried Sage from The Maine Ingredient

We’re excited to share that Sammi has stepped into a second role of Farm Manager at Meeting House Farm. Many of you already know Sammi from her work as our Herbal Marketplace Collaborative Director, where she helps shape and strengthen our community of growers and makers.

Now, as Sammi takes on this additional role as Farm Manager, she will also lead our daily operations, support our team, and make sure the herbs we grow are nurtured with the same care and attention that defines everything we do here.

Her journey with us has already been one of dedication and collaboration, and we’re thrilled to see her talents continue to flourish in this new, additional role. Please join us in celebrating this next chapter for Sammi — and for the farm.

We are also pleased to let you know that we have hired two new Farm Hands! We'll share more information about them in an upcoming email, so stay tuned.

More About Sammi:

Sammi lives in Lisbon, Maine and brings a strong background in horticulture and commercial greenhouse management to Meeting House Farm. Drawn by a desire to expand her focus from fruits and vegetables to herbs, she found both the plants and the supportive mentorship she was seeking here.

Beyond the farm, Sammi enjoys spending time outdoors and creating art. You’ll often find her paddleboarding in coastal estuaries, painting with acrylics and watercolors, wood-burning detailed landscape scenes, or—when time allows—rock climbing on the dramatic cliffs of Acadia.
