Poor little Finn!!!! His finder posted him looking for a rescue to take him and “help him find a good home” since she “can not keep him” and the only offer to take him was from us. A little baby with a fungal infection that many people are terrified of, no big deal. We love him and he’s a joy to have.

Fast forward and the finder who surrendered him now suddenly wants to adopt him. Now that the hard part of getting him over the ringworm hump is done, she wants him. Fine!! If someone surrenders a cat and decides they want them back, I’m happy to give them a chance and the benefit of the doubt so we setup a pick up date. 👻 no show. Schedule another. 👻 no show no text back. ❌❌❌ That’s 3 strikes. Finn is now having fun with other kittens, and would love a home with other cats. Normally we wouldn’t let a kitten his age be an only pet, and bending that rule got us no where, so let’s try this again.

Finn is an angel and will make ANY family very happy, and the applicant who ultimately gets him will value him and make him a priority, not stand him up over and over. Please don’t use rescues to do the “dirty work” or the things you can’t be bothered doing. I’m happy to help teach you how to care for a cat or kitten you take in, but once they’re surrendered to our rescue, THEY are our priority. Not you.

Instead of a thank you, donation, or offer to help care for Finn, the finder left us a ⭐️review. Congrats. This is why we choose cats over humans.

We got sweet 6 year old boy, Anthony, Saturday night right before I was leaving. He immediately settled in next to the FIV poster we have, and proudly told the rest of the cats that he is FIV+ and he is excited to be roommates with them! He’s the most mellow sweetheart and I can’t wait to see him tomorrow and get to know him better. While we’ve had to turn a lot of cats down due to capacity lately, we love our FIV+ cats and always have room for one more. They need as many advocates as they can get and we love them so much.

Come visit Anthony and his buddies this week 🩷

🚩This week alone I’ve gotten 3 messages asking me to take FIV+ cats bc the person who is caring for them was told they needed to live as an only cat or with other FIV+ cats. What year are we in?⁉️

Let’s talk about FIV+! So many people are misinformed about what exactly FIV means, and it just scares them off. Sadly, many vets are NO help in the matter!! FIV+ and FIV- cats can happily and healthily live together in perfect harmony. (We have both FIV+ and - cats at the cafe as proof!) I feel like a broken record but that’s ok, bear with me 😆

One of the most damaging myths about FIV positive cats is that saliva can transfer the virus and therefore sharing the same bowls and licking each other can cause the virus to pass from cat to cat. BUT the virus stays deep inside the cats gums, so it’s really mainly passed thru DEEP bite wounds which normally occurs from aggressive fights. In our experience the majority of FIV+ cats are actually the sweetest cats we’ve ever met!!

The take home message here is that FIV cats can live long fulfilling lives with other FIV cats and negative FIV cats! Don’t discount a cat just because of their diagnosis. This message has been brought to you by Clancy (2 years) and his baby buddy Tito (6 months).

The best part about this is that people are so scared that FIV+ will get sick all the time, meanwhile Clancy hasn’t sneezed ONCE despite being surrounded by this daycare of germ infected kittens! He’s the healthiest one here!!

Everyone’s always saying how exotic Stan looks. While he is definitely gorgeous, I think the “exotic” look is more of a “I had a really hard life and my body is trying REALLY hard” look. Stan might not be very long for this world, but when he cries and cries, he’s asking for water and a handful of Temptations, with his thyroid pill. He deserves to have whatever he asks for, but we are running out of Temptations!!! If you’d like to send him a pack, we just put them on our wishlist ❤️💫

We got Kodiak back in May and he had to have entropion surgery on both eyes so his lashes would stop rubbing on them! Look how beautiful and bright eyed he’s become!! He must have been so uncomfortable 😣 Kodiak is a little rough around the edges but in the best way. He’s a cross between tough guy street cat and complete teddy bear baby. He spends his day playing with mouse toys and reminiscing about the good old days when he played with real mice.

Kodiak is about 10/11 years old and would LOVE a home with windows and maybe a safe yard/catio. He does great with everyone and deserves a forever home.

What is The Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe?

Our mission is to foster an environment where people can relax and enjoy a cup of coffee while experiencing the joy, playfulness, and love that shelter cats have to offer. We aim to provide homeless cats an environment in which they can thrive, and to unite them with their furever home.

What is a Cat Cafe, anyway? A cat cafe is place where cats can roam free, interact with each other, spend some time with us humans, and just live a happier life while waiting for their furever homes! Our cafe, The Shabby Tabby, will be a place where you can come and enjoy your favorite beverage, snack on our yummy baked goods, and hang out with our adoptable cats! All of our cats are rescued from high kill shelters by The Golden Paw Society (@goldenpawsociety). Working with the Golden Paw, The Shabby Tabby gives kitties a second chance for a better life.
