When we pulled Baxter from an animal control facility in mid-August, we knew he needed some dental work, but it turned out he REALLY needed dental work.
Once he was under anesthesia and the vets could get a better look at his mouth, they discovered that his teeth had been neglected for so long, the infection had entered the bone of his lower jaw (osteomyelitis). He ended up needing part of his jaw removed, in addition to multiple tooth extractions.
We are extremely grateful to the Petfinder Foundation, who awarded us an emergency medical grant to cover this very unexpected, but absolutely necessary expense to save Baxter. Without their support, Baxter would not be where he is today—healthy, pain-free, and in a loving home.
Congratulations Baxter, and thank you Petfinder Foundation!
