Being a dog walker means spending my days with dogs that aren’t technically mine—but in my heart, they all are. I fall in love with their routines, their silly quirks, the way they greet me at the door, the trust in their eyes, and the little moments we share on every walk. Over time, they become a part of my life just as much as I become a part of theirs.
That’s why losing one is so incredibly hard. When a client’s dog passes away, it doesn’t feel distant or “professional.” It feels personal. It feels like losing one of my own. Their absence hits me on my walks, in the quiet moments when I look at the leash I won’t be using anymore, or when I pass by a spot they loved to sniff. Every dog I care for leaves a pawprint on my heart, and when they’re gone, that space aches.
Today, my heart is heavy as I say goodbye to sweet Gaddie. I’m grateful for every walk, every nuzzle, every happy tail, and every moment we shared. Rest in peace, Gaddie. You were loved so much—by your family, by me, and by everyone lucky enough to know you.
Hug your fur babies a little tighter today. ❤️🐾
