Dogwood Pet Lodge NY

Dogwood Pet Lodge NY Dogwood Pet Lodge has indoor/outdoor dog runs in a log cabin style facility attached to our home.

Our kennels are housed in a cozy log cabin style building attached to our personal home. For your dogs you may choose standard boarding in our indoor/outdoor individual runs or our “Very Important Pooch” VIP room for a more home-like accommodation. Standard runs have radiant heat floors for chilly nights and AC for those hot "dog days of summer”. We provide blankets which we change out frequently

so personal dog beds are not accepted to help keep kennels sanitary. We provide bowls but we require that you bring your pet's own food, it is best for them to eat what they are used to, as well as any medications your pet may need. If your pet takes pills and they do not just eat them in their food please bring “Pill Pockets” or can dog food to smoosh it in, or we can use peanut butter we have here. We provide biscuts every evening before closing up as a "nite nite" treat however if you would like to bring your dog's favorite treats you may. Any chews to be left on the kennel floor for daytime enjoyment must be either synthetic such as Nylabones, Benebones, Kongs etc or easily digestible edibles such as Whimzees, Greenies, Smart/DreamBones, etc. We do not accept rawhides, pig ears, meaty bones or other animal body part type chews. Cats, small animal pets and potbelly pigs are accommodated in the main house for their peace and comfort away from the dogs.

A PSA from me today about dog dental disease. I've been wanting to share something about Dino's story in case it might help someone else recognize that their dog has a severe case of dental disease. When Dino came to us in September one of the first things I noticed when I would pet him is that I felt these two bumps kind of right at the back of his jaw on both sides of his face. Now I'm no veterinarian, but I've been working with dogs since 2007 so over 18 years now I've put my hands on a lot of dogs faces! Never had I felt bumps like these before on a dog's face so I immediately thought they felt odd. I wasn't sure about them, but every time I felt them I was more and more convinced that they were odd and not something that is normal. Since I had been told when we got him that he had really bad dental, I thought possibly it had something to do with that. So when we first took him to a veterinarian (that was reccomended to us by a local shelter) and the vet was talking to us after examining him and she confirmed he had severe dental disease I asked about the bumps. She (in my opinion of her tone) told me that was just part of his skull and something to the effect that ya know dogs have bone structure in their face and jaw, condescendingly as if I was ignorant. But like I said, I am not a vet so I took her word for it and accepted the information as truth.

Anyhow, the cost estimate for surgery was much more than we were willing to take on right away, so I decided to get a second estimate from our other personal veterinarian. Once again after the examination the vet was speaking with us about his severe dental disease and in discussion of how soon his needs were for surgery, without any questions on my part this time, (since I had already accepted the answer I got the first time) she straight out said that it's so bad in the back of his mouth there's so much inflammation that it's very swollen. So then i couldn't help but ask again, despite the nervousness of my supposed ignorance last time, ..."Oh i had noticed ever since we've had him, I could feel on both sides of his face these bumps on the back area of his jaw that I thought felt odd and kept wondering what they were is that why?? And she said yes, absolutely... now this vet's tone in her response was that is what I just told you. (obviously not understanding my apprehension in confirming with my question)

So the moral of the story is if you feel bumps on the back of your dog's jaw it very well could be swelling from dental disease. After his surgery I went back to look to see if the bumps were visible in photos and it's kind of hard to see them in photos, but I marked in red where I think they are visible in some i had and then are the after photos... can you see the difference??

⁉️🤰🆘 👩‍🍼⁉️👼🆘 Does anyone have a vacant basement "apartment" or anything of such that would be willing to temporarily take in a pregnant friend of ours and her one year old baby girl who just left a toxic domestic situation?? At first we took her in but our living space is small esp with our 5 dogs plus the hectic, noisy kennel business environment was not suitable for the baby. So DSS placed her in a shelter in Poughkeepsie. She says it is dreadful and a terrible place for her being pregnant and scary for the baby girl so she is desperate and begging us to help her find somewhere to go until her court date on the 21st can grant her permission to go stay with her family in Connecticut. Call or message me for more info if you can help.❤️‍🩹

We were super busy this past summer with cat boarding more than ever! It was a first that there was a weekend in August that we had 8 cats booked! Since I'd only ever had accommodations up to 4 cats maximum I was in a fret and jumped online and ordered 2 of these 3 tier new cat houses! They arrived quickly a week prior but in flat boxes and in a million pieces! So in a hectic frenzy the guys got them put together just in time! I kept meaning to post so sorry the news is a little late, but wanted to let everyone know that we can accommodate many more kitties!

Absolutely!

Our Story

Dogwood Pet Lodge is family owned and operated. Mike and Pat have lived in the Hudson Valley since 1965 and are very involved in managing Dogwood Pet Lodge, however Allison is responsible for the main care of all the dogs: I have loved dogs since I was a little girl. I grew up in Hurley, NY and we always had a dog. Brutus was my first best friend. After he passed we soon adopted Linus and then there was Brodie and then Cisco. I attended schools in Kingston and went to college at SUNY New Paltz. After college I moved to Atlanta and got a job at an advertising agency. After many years I felt I was at a point in my life that I was ready for a dog of my own and adopted Tracker when he was 3 months old from Atlanta Pet Rescue. Only a few months later through the same rescue I tried to foster Layla but in 2 weeks adopted her myself! I absolutely loved having both dogs! After being in Atlanta for 8 years I decided I wanted to move back to the northeast and moved to Boston with my dogs. I soon got another job working at an ad agency in downtown Boston, however a few years later I was laid off. I then fell into the perfect job... working for a dog care company. A girl who was walking dogs for many years after losing her airline industry job was opening up a whole retail, grooming and doggy daycare right on my street! Since she often saw me with my 2 big dogs she asked me to join her team and I realized I wasn’t a corporate career kind of girl after all. Dogs were my calling so I happily became a full time dog walker and worked with many different breeds of dogs over the next 5 years! I learned all I needed to learn about dog care and the workings of a dog care business so it was with all my heart and passion for dogs that I was then ready for my next chapter moving back to my home area and making the former Dogwood Kennels my own. A year later I met another huge dog lover Joseph and after 3 years driving down from the Capital District to be with us every weekend at the Lodge Joe moved in and became a permanent addition to Dogwood Pet Lodge as well. Then in Sept 2017 we were married so Dogwood Pet Lodge is now a husband & wife team!
