WE’RE HIRING!
We’re currently hiring for two positions:
Kennel Technician / Bather
Monday-Friday
7:00 AM-2:00 PM
Rotating weekend kennel shifts are required.
Professional Dog Groomer:
Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
Approximately 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (depending on your appointments)
This one is bittersweet. Our Alysa is going back to school full-time for her senior year. We’re so proud of her, and she’ll still be with us in the afternoons and evenings, but we’re looking for someone to step into our morning position.
Kennel Technician / Bather Responsibilities:
• Opening the shop each morning
• Greeting clients and checking pets in and out
• Caring for our boarding dogs
• Cleaning and sanitizing kennels and common areas
• Laundry
• Letting dogs outside throughout the day
• Bathing and drying dogs
• Assisting wherever needed to keep the day running smoothly
You won’t be thrown into bathing dogs on your first day. We have a training process because we’d rather teach someone the right way from the very beginning.
A great groom doesn’t start with clippers. It starts with a properly bathed, thoroughly dried, and correctly prepped dog. The foundation of every quality groom is the prep work that happens before the haircut ever begins.
Bathing in a professional grooming salon is very different from giving your own dog a bath at home. We use specific techniques, products, equipment, and processes to get dogs truly clean while protecting their skin and coat. You’ll learn why every step matters and how doing the prep work correctly directly impacts the final groom.
Pay is based on experience, with plenty of room to grow. We believe in rewarding hard work, dedication, and continued growth, so raises are earned as your skills, knowledge, and responsibilities grow. Tips are 100% yours to keep.
If your goal is to become a professional groomer, we offer apprenticeship opportunities and may even help the right person further their education.
For Our Groomer Position
We’re looking for someone who believes in quality over quantity.
We specialize in senior pets, high-anxiety dogs, and large breeds that many salons choose not to take. We don’t rush dogs. We don’t force dogs through a groom. We don’t cut corners. We schedule enough time to do things correctly because every dog deserves patience and compassion.
If that sounds like the kind of groomer you are, we’d love to meet you.
This isn’t an easy quick job.
Some days are smooth. Other days are physically demanding.
You’ll clean kennels, scrub tubs, do laundry, mop floors, and occasionally clean up things you’d rather not talk about. 🤪
You’ll lift dogs.
You’ll spend most of the day on your feet.
You’ll be outside in the Alabama heat during potty breaks and inside in the ac when it’s time for baths, boarding care, or grooming.
It’s work. But it’s also one of the most rewarding careers you can have if you truly love and respect animals.
You’ll build relationships with dogs that run through the front door excited to see you. You’ll help nervous dogs learn to trust people again. You’ll become part of families lives by caring for pets they consider their children.
More Than Anything
We’re looking for character.
Kindness can’t be taught.
Integrity can’t be taught.
A strong work ethic can’t be taught.
We can teach bathing techniques, kennel procedures, and grooming skills. We can’t teach someone to genuinely care.
We’re looking for someone who:
• Is kind to both people and animals.
• Works hard without being asked.
• Has grit and takes pride in doing things right.
• Enjoys learning.
• Can leave drama at the door.
• Wants to be part of a small team that respects and supports one another.
Pawnails has worked incredibly hard to build the reputation we have today.
Every employee represents this business every time they answer the phone, greet a client, or care for someone’s pet.
We take that responsibility seriously.
We are one of the few salons in our area that requires proof of vaccinations because we believe preventing illness is just as important as creating beautiful grooms. Cleanliness, safety, and quality care aren’t just things we talk about they’re part of everything we do.
Requirements
• You must be able to consistently work the hours listed for the position you’re applying for.
• Applicants for the Kennel Technician / Bather position must live within approximately 25 minutes of the shop, as occasional emergency call-ins may be necessary.
• Reliable transportation is required.
• Weekend rotations are required for kennel staff.
• You must be comfortable working around dogs of all breeds, sizes, and personalities.
We’re not looking for someone who just needs a job until something else comes along.
We’re looking for someone who wants to build a career, grow alongside us, and genuinely make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.
