Meet Gryff! He was adopted from a shelter in Florida! He is a German Shepherd, Standard Poodle, and Bernese Mountain dog mix! He was just the sweetest dude and sure loved peanut butter!

Today, we remember the ones who never made it back home.

The sons and daughters.
The husbands and wives.
The mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends.
The ones whose boots never crossed the threshold again.
The ones whose chairs stayed empty.
The ones whose dogs kept listening for a truck in the driveway, a voice at the door, one more game of ball in the yard.

For every folded flag, there is a story.
For every name remembered, there is a family forever changed.
For every freedom we enjoy today, there was someone brave enough to give everything.

So today, enjoy the sunshine. Hold your people close. Let the dogs run. Share the meal. Laugh if you can.

But pause, too.

Remember them.
Honor them.
And never forget the heroes who did not come home.

❤️🤍💙

Happy World Turtle Day! 🐢🌎💚
May 23rd is all about celebrating one of the coolest, calmest, most ancient little creatures on the planet — turtles!

Here at Saxony Animal Clinic, we may spend our days caring for cats and dogs, but today we’re slowing things down and giving a big shell-ebration shoutout to turtles everywhere.

Turtles are pretty amazing. Some can live for decades, some travel incredible distances, and some have been quietly minding their business on this planet since long before humans started making Facebook posts about them.

They remind us that slow and steady really can win the race — or at least make it to snack time with dignity.

A few turtle-y fun facts:

🐢 Turtles do not “move out” of their shells — their shell is part of their body.
🐢 Some turtles can recognize routines and even learn when feeding time is coming.
🐢 Sea turtles can travel thousands of miles through the ocean.
🐢 Turtles may be quiet, but they are full of personality.

Today we want to hear from you!

🐾 Have you ever had a turtle as a pet?
🐾 What is your favorite kind of turtle?
🐾 Did you grow up seeing box turtles in the yard or near the road?
🐾 Do you have a funny turtle story, turtle photo, or favorite turtle fact?

Drop it in the comments below — let’s have a little turtle talk today!

And as always, when you see wildlife out and about, admire them safely, give them space, and help them cross the road only when it is safe to do so — always in the direction they were already headed.

Happy World Turtle Day from Saxony Animal Clinic — where we love all creatures, even the ones who bring their own house with them. 🐢💚

Happy National Rescue Dog Day! 🐾💚

Today we celebrate the dogs who found their way home — and the people who opened their hearts.

Rescue dogs come with stories we may never fully know, but what we do know is this: they have an incredible way of filling a home with love, loyalty, laughter, and second chances. Whether they came from a shelter, a foster home, a rescue organization, or simply found their way to the right family at the right time, rescue dogs remind us that love can change a life.

At Saxony Animal Clinic, we believe every animal deserves compassion, patience, and the chance to feel safe and loved.

Today, we’re celebrating all the rescue pups who became family. The seniors, the shy ones, the goofy ones, the tiny lap dogs, the big couch hogs, the nervous babies who learned to trust, and the “who rescued who?” companions who changed everything.

We’d love to hear your rescue dog stories!

🐾 What is your rescue dog’s name?
🐾 How did they come into your life?
🐾 What is something special, funny, or lovable about them?
🐾 Drop a picture in the comments so we can celebrate them with you!

To every rescue dog and every family who gave them a second chance — we see you, we love you, and we celebrate you today.

National Endangered Species Day

Here at Saxony Animal Clinic, our day-to-day work is focused on cats and dogs — the companions curled up on our couches, waiting by our doors, and filling our homes with love.

But today, we pause to remember that our responsibility to animals reaches far beyond our own backyards.

National Endangered Species Day is a reminder to honor and protect the animals around the world who need humans to speak up for them — the ones whose habitats are shrinking, whose numbers are declining, and whose futures depend on awareness, compassion, and action.

There is a well-known quote by Baba Dioum that says:

“In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.”

That message feels especially important today.

The more we learn about endangered animals, the more we understand how connected we all are — wildlife, pets, people, and the planet we share. Every creature has a place. Every species has a purpose. And every act of care, no matter how small, matters.

So today, we celebrate the animals who need our voices. The elephants, sea turtles, rhinos, monarch butterflies, red wolves, big cats, birds, bees, and so many others whose survival depends on people choosing to care.

We may be a small-town cat-and-dog clinic, but our hearts are with all of Earth’s animals today.

Tell us in the comments:
🐾 What endangered animal has always fascinated you?
🐾 Is there one your child or family loves learning about?
🐾 Drop a photo, fact, or favorite species below — let’s learn from each other today.

When we learn, we understand. When we understand, we care. And when we care, we protect.

Happy International Chihuahua Day!

Today, May 14th, we’re celebrating one of the tiniest dogs with one of the biggest personalities — the Chihuahua!

Chihuahuas may be small, but anyone who loves one knows they are packed full of confidence, loyalty, sass, and heart. They are often deeply bonded to their favorite people, quick to alert the household when something suspicious is happening — like the mailman, a leaf, or absolutely nothing at all — and they have a way of making sure their opinion is heard.

We love Chihuahuas because they remind us that size has absolutely nothing to do with spirit. They can be brave, snuggly, dramatic, hilarious, and fiercely devoted all in the same afternoon.

They also teach us something important as pet owners: little dogs still have big-dog needs. Regular wellness visits, dental care, weight management, proper nutrition, and keeping them safely warm and protected all help these tiny companions live their best lives.

So today, we want to hear from our Chihuahua families!

Tell us in the comments:

🐾 What is your Chihuahua’s name?
🐾 Are they more “sweet snuggle bug” or “tiny boss of the house”?
🐾 What is the funniest thing they do?
🐾 And of course — drop a picture so we can celebrate them!

Happy International Chihuahua Day from all of us at Saxony Animal Clinic. Tiny paws, huge hearts. 💚

“Growing Older, Staying Loved”

🐾 Senior Pets Deserve Extra Care 🐾

As pets age, their needs change. Senior pets may need more frequent exams, bloodwork, pain management, dental care, diet adjustments, or help with mobility.

Sometimes changes are subtle:

Sleeping more
Drinking more water
Weight changes
Stiffness or limping
Confusion or anxiety
Less interest in play
Changes in appetite

These signs are not “just old age.” They may be your pet’s way of telling us something is changing.

National Pet Week is the perfect reminder that pets deserve care at every stage of life — from puppy and kitten visits to golden-year comfort care.

They spend their whole lives loving us. We’re here to help you love them well through every chapter. 💙
