Name of the game this week - keep your bunny friends cool! 🧊 This will be the first week almost entirely in the 90’s here in Utah. Your furry friends need extra thought & care.

Our new setup allows us to let the bunnies out almost all day & our willow tree has gotten HUGE over the last year. It has been so helpful in giving them shade & keeping their space cooler. My husband just moved this little black cage to give them more space under the tree. Bonus - they love eating the leaves! We also make sure they always have access to their food, water & shelter.

ALWAYS make sure they have access to shade & water as the sun changes throughout the day! ☀️

Hello friends!! Here’s a little life update. We have been getting some interest in bunnies, which I love! So here is where we are at with breeding -

First - we’ve been working on our yard more & enjoying time outside with our animal friends. Our animal friends have been enjoying what we’ve been planting 😂 the bunnies got banished first when they thought my tulips were their personal snacks! 🤣 but we set up a little play area where they can hop in & out of their cages, have access to shade, but also enjoy a good patch of grass & sunshine. I feel better having them a bit more secure, too. A few hawks have been a little too curious lately! The bunnies seem to love the setup, so it’ll likely stay!!

Second - baby bunny update! We got a new girl bunny last year with high hopes. We wanted to try to get a few more litters from Snowball if we could before he needed to retire, but he might be done. We’re not exactly sure where the issue lies, but no baby bunnies yet! We’ve all but left them together for months & nothing. It was winter & she would be a first time mom, too, So we’re trying to decide what to try next. Probably a new breeding boy first. We’d love to have a few litters a year, but we’re also in a busy season of life with our kids, so we’re not sure how many bunnies we’re willing to have. Snowball stays!! We’ll keep you updated!

Third, We need to do a major overhaul to keep the chickens in their own space. They got banished when they decided to eat my newly planted marigolds & dug up the bed of spinach. Their dust bathing spots have taken over our entire garden space, so it’s time to give them more room & a good spot for dust bathing. We also need a finer mesh so all of the little birds don’t eat us out of house & home! Haha

For anyone ready to comment, they have enough space, but we let them free roam our backyard most of the day. No one truly prepares you for the p**p! There’s a lot of it & it can be pretty gross. Nothing like finding the presents they leave for us on our back porch & steps! Haha it’s hard to enjoy a yard taken over by chickens! And I want our garden to have a chance. We’ll still let them out in the yard, but with supervision! Haha

Throwback pic - I’ve been looking through old photos on the computer & realizing how much baby bunnies used to be a part of every day life! I miss it! We had our first attempt with our new mama, Coconut Crème. She pulled fur & made a nice nest, but it was likely a phantom pregnancy. It gave us hope that she’ll be a great Mama. It’s time to put them together again & see if we can’t get some babies in our life again. I miss them 😍

I realized at the last moment that I took zero videos or photos, so I snapped this! Our sweet friend & former baby, Chip, came for a visit this last week. We love seeing him! 😍😍😍 He’s one of our absolute favorite OG bunnies. He’s so lovable

Getting to know our new baby girl - current name being used by 3 out of 4 kids is Coconut 🥥 Not necessarily what I would have chosen, but it is their bunny. Fun story - this girl has one of our bucks in her lines!! That buck’s parents were my sweet Hedwig & our original fav chocolate girl Coco Crème. So, I think this girls full name should be Coco-nut Crème!!

Looking for a new home 🏡 - hello, friends!

These two girlies were born here at our Baby Bunny Patch two years ago on May 10, 2022. Mama was Coco Creme Too & Daddy was our friend, Chip! One is a chocolate otter, the other a Torted black otter. As you can see, they are bonded & have been handled & well-loved. They live exclusively outside & don’t mind being held - you just have to catch them, first lol! They are not fixed, but have never been bred

Their family is needing to find them a new home & reached out to us. If I weren’t weeks away from having a new little human, I’d have found a way to take them in. As it is, I’m barely surviving & getting my humans fed 😂

Reach out if you have any interest in these two cuties!!

Flashbacks to July 1st, 2012!! Our very first litter of Holland Lop babies. It was one of the best days! There is nothing like seeing that nest of fur for the first time. We got 4 very different & beautiful babies. I’m so excited to have a girl back in our Baby Bunny Patch & hopefully some babies in a few months when she is old enough. I’ll hopefully start posting some more to give you glimpses of our new gal & our favorite boy, Snowball! There will be some crazy chickens thrown in, too. They should start laying eggs in a few weeks! Also, “hi!“ I’m Meagan!! The mom & voice behind this space. This pic is a much younger & less pregnant version of me, but you get the idea 😉 We are a family run rabbitry. Our 4 kids (soon to be 5) are in charge! We just help with the grownup side of things & making sure our rabbits get the best care. Our kids range from 4 to 15 years old & love our bunnies. This has always been great way to teach them how to work & take care of our bunnies that they love. Aside from paying for the expenses of the rabbitry & an occasional drink for the accountant (aka me) during crazy reservations, our kids get any profit from our babies. They have all managed to put away some money for college & love seeing their hard work pay off!! It’s good to be (sort of) back!! Can’t wait to share more

Eugene’s Baby Bunny Patch Rabbitry

Based in Northern Utah County, our children run rabbitry’s aim is to help our kids learn valuable life skills through the business of providing high-quality Holland Lop rabbits. We have a current focus on breeding for specific, unique colors to allow our children to learn the science of genetics and biology. By teaching responsibility and a love of animals, our kits (baby bunnies) are handled daily to create kid-friendly personalities resulting in great pets!
