Colkim Kennels in conjunction with Florida Statue affords the buyer many consumer protections. Please read the details in All About Us.
Shar-Pei once a very rare dog breed, is often called the "wrinkled dog". Their intelligence, keen ability to be a watch dog, easy housebreaking, and short coat makes the Pei a wonderful pet. The Shar Pei is the perfect addition to the traditional family of mom, dad, and children, as well as, the ideal companion for a couple looking for a substitute child, or devoted friend for the single person. They are comfortable in an apartment setting with nice walks as well as in a home inside with a backyard to go in and out occasionally. Colkim Kennel is proud to be among the original group of Shar Pei Breeders in the United States.
We started in 1979. Our original Shar Pei's were registered with the Chinese Shar Pei Club of America. These purebred dogs were called foundation stock. In 1992, The American Kennel Club removed the Sharpei from miscellaneous class to full AKC registration. Colkim Kennel had our first SCPCA champion in 1982. All our Shar Pei's are AKC registered. Most of our loving Male Shar Pei puppies and Female Shar-Pei Puppies have Champions in their background pedigree. A breed and Pet quality puppy is an ideal choice for a family pet. Showing demands a lot of time and training. Most individuals find showing too demanding. Florida has a Lemon Law for dogs. All male and female puppies obtain a complete physical and health certificate from a certified Florida Veterinarian. Our puppies are genetically guaranteed according to the law.
Please take a look at our Shar-Pei Information. Pick a Sharpei puppy from our many beautiful colors to include blue, dilute chocolate, cream, fawn, flowered (spotted) apricot and blacks. Colkim has both mini and standard, hoarse, brush, and bear coats.
Eric O'Mura from China allowed us the privilege of owning one of his Traditional Bone Mouth Shar Pei puppies. Vegan is now three and has sired beautiful Traditional puppies combined with Colkim's lines of bone mouths. We have both the Chinese original look and our American Shar Pei but not over-wrinkled for health reasons.
Colkim Kennels will genetically guarantee the puppies sold.
Below is the Florida Statutes that we follow. Every puppy sold is taken to a Florida Licensed Veterinarian for a full examination. If the puppy exhibits a genetic problem the owners' Veterinarian must present proof to our Veterinarian that the puppy was unfit for sale as required. We will gladly exchange or replace the puppy upon proof of neuter or spaying if the owner chooses to keep the puppy. We will replace or refund the actual price of the puppy if returned. We can not address any illnesses or genetic problems without direct proof from the Veterinarian that the puppy did indeed suffer from a genetic problem making the puppy unfit for sale. Colkim Shar Pei’s can not assume responsibility for any eye problems, which a Shar Pei may incur as the occurrence of wrinkling and large heavy faces may predispose the dog to needing eye tacking or even entropian surgery. Entropia can occur at any age and start with something as simple as doggie flu where the face shrinks or dirt in the eye.
Anyone who has seen mention of Colkim Kennels or Laurel Colgate on some internet websites where the customer was unhappy, please realize that such a customer did not take advantage of the many protections guaranteed by Florida Law.
We have been in business for 35 years and will address any problems presented with proof. This is my profession breeding healthy puppies that enhance the life of all families and individuals. It is our pleasure to do this and the law requires it. I am inspected routinely by the American Kennel Club, AKC, and Florida Department of Agriculture and no Florida breeder can be in business without their positive inspections to include DNA testing of parents and their puppies and close examination of all records.
Anyone that is curious about the many protections offered that are guaranteed to consumers that purchase from a Florida breeder please read Florida Statue 828.29.
Here is an excerpt from Chapter 828, Florida Statutes, called the “Consumer Guarantee”:
"It is the consumer’s right, pursuant to Section 828.29, Florida Statutes, to receive a certificate of veterinary inspection with each dog or cat purchased from a pet dealer. Such certificate shall list all vaccines and de-worming medications administered to the animal and shall state that that animal has been examined by a Florida-licensed veterinarian, who certifies that, to the best of his knowledge, the animal was found to have been healthy at the time of the veterinary examination."
