Celebrating Champ’s gotcha day!

A Cinderella story for sure!!! Champ, originally named junior came from Mexico to The Animal Pad in very rough shape. He had an amputation done and it was infected and he was not even being treated with pain medication!!! He was declining fast. TAP stepped in and took Champ in. They had to do a amputation revision due to the infection. Soon he was on his way to recovery and on Feb 20, 2022 landed in my arms to recover and then get placed out for adoption. We soon discovered Champ had some more hurdles to face first. After Heather Jenner discovered some lumps on Champ’s throat, we were fearing the worse and preliminary tests were pointing to the big C… CANCER! So back in for surgery Champ went. The lumps were removed and a eye revision surgery was performed on a poorly done eye removal that had been done in Mexico (apparently). Two weeks later we learned that Champ was indeed cancer free and all indications were incorrect!!! He had a clean bill of health!! Now would Champ recover emotionally!? And that is how he developed his name! Junior didn’t quite fit this fighter I had on my hands! This dog in my eyes is a champion! And so Champ became his name. Today Champ is still learning how to just be a dog. He enjoys laying in the sunlight, barking at the mailman, getting his belly scratched and eating many many treats! He has overcome many many fears he had when he first came to us. He wouldn’t walk on a leash, he wouldn’t voluntarily walk out the front door or go near the car. Today he climbed in the car for a ride all on his own! We are still working on his stamina and we begin dog training classes on Saturday! I’m sure he’ll be top of his class as he already knows sit, down, slap five and target. So anyways the point of my story is this dog had indeed won his way into all of our hearts and with that I am soo excited to announce that Champ is my Foster Fail!!! Champ Porter is an official member of the family having signed the adoption papers today!! Champs gotcha day!!! Thank you for reading his tale! Help us welcome him officially to the family!
