The Way Dogs Love
They do not ask who you are
or what you’ve done.
They don’t measure your worth
by what you’ve won.
They simply love you—
exactly as you are.
No conditions, no judgment,
no keeping score.
They give you the benefit of the doubt,
again and again.
They ask for so little—
just your time, your touch, your attention.
They wait for you.
They watch the door.
And when you finally walk inside,
they greet you like they’ve missed you forever.
They wear their hearts upon their chests,
their joy impossible to hide.
Every feeling honest,
every bit of love given freely.
They don’t care about your looks,
your money, your name, or your place.
They only care that you’re there.
They listen.
They stay when you’re hurting.
They celebrate your happiness
and comfort you when you’re sad.
They give you everything they have
without asking what they’ll get in return.
And sometimes I think,
when I wonder what real love should look like,
I picture a dog.
Uncomplicated.
Loyal.
Joyful.
Forgiving.
A love that doesn’t ask you to earn it—
only to receive it.
Maybe that’s why dogs
teach us so much about love.
Because they don’t just love us.
They show us how to love.
