🌈🐷💔We have suffered a devastating and expected loss.
Ziva, The Queen of our pig family, and the reason we started LFAS in 2015, recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Ziva was over 11 years old and lived a long, happy life with us but losing her feels unreal and we are grieving hard.
In 2015 Bill and I were moving home to California after living 9 years in South Carolina. While packing, we received a frantic phone call from a woman whose husband found a stray baby pig. He was going to slaughter her in their yard and then he and his polo buddies were going to barbecue her.
Back then, Bill and I knew practically NOTHING about pigs. But when we saw how Ziva had been “living” (see photo 3) we couldn’t leave this baby. Ziva had been terribly neglected and yet she was very friendly and super chatty. Bill and I couldn’t walk away and still live with ourselves.
Ziva was the catalyst to help us look squarely at the horrific cruelty in the pork industry and the massive numbers of pigs who are slaughtered every year. Because of Ziva we became smitten with ALL pigs and vowed to advocate for them at every opportunity. We embarked on an important journey to speak up for anyone who is defenseless because Ziva caused us to have a new “world view.”
Ziva was the reason many people saw pigs in a new light. Her enthusiastic “happy sounds” and perpetual smile were irresistible. When she grew to over 500 pounds her gentle nature showed people size does not mean aggression. Ziva never got angry and yet our other pigs instinctively knew she was their leader. The Queen.👑
Ziva, we are all better people for having loved you. You will always be missed and loved by your LFAS family…and beyond. Now, my darling, run wild and free. You will always be our beautiful Queen Ziva (aka Miss Pigglesworth Snortermer.)
A personal message for Paige P (photo 4) Thank you for your generous and unwavering years of love and support. You will always be Ziva’s Angel. We love you and we are deeply grateful.❤️
