Before the ghosts, goblins, and tiny sugar-fueled humans take over the neighborhood, here’s a little reminder from your friends at Off Leash K9 Training 30A! 😂

🍫 Keep chocolate and candy away from curious noses!

🚪 Secure your pups when trick-or-treaters come knocking!

👻 Remember that costumes, masks, and spooky decorations can be scary for some dogs!

🐾 Give your dog a quiet place to relax if all the excitement becomes overwhelming.

🎃 And PLEASE remember… your dog doesn’t have to participate in the festivities to have a happy Halloween!

Sometimes the best Halloween plans involve a comfy bed, a favorite chew, and absolutely ZERO doorbell interruptions! 🤣❤️

Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do for a dog is SLOW DOWN AND LET THEM TAKE IT ALL IN. ❤️

New environments bring new sights, sounds, smells, people, and distractions. That’s a LOT for some dogs to process!

🚨 YOUR DOG ISN’T STUBBORN. YOU MIGHT JUST BE CONFUSING THE HELL OUT OF THEM. 👀🐾

Yep. We said it. 😂

You tell your dog “DOWN” when they’re jumping.

Then you tell them “DOWN” when you want them to lie down.

You say “COME!” 47 times while they’re ignoring you.

And “IT’S OKAY!” while they’re losing their mind at the front door.

Then you wonder why they don’t listen. 🤦‍♀️

HERE’S THE THING…

Dogs don’t speak English. They learn through consistency, repetition, and clear communication.

If the rules, words, and expectations constantly change, how are they supposed to know what you want?

Sometimes the problem isn’t a dog refusing to listen.

It’s a human who hasn’t learned how to communicate clearly. 🎯

And that’s exactly why dog training is just as much about teaching PEOPLE as it is about teaching dogs.

This pack walk is exclusively for dogs who have participated in our Board & Train or Private Lesson programs!

🐶 WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF A PACK WALK?

First things first… THIS IS NOT A DOGGY PLAYDATE! 😂

Our structured pack walks are designed to help you and your dog practice:

🐾 Walking calmly around other dogs

🐾 Maintaining engagement with YOU despite distractions

🐾 Building confidence in real-world environments

🐾 Practicing neutrality and impulse control

🐾 Reinforcing those obedience skills you’ve worked so hard to develop!

Because remember…

Socialization doesn’t mean your dog needs to greet every dog they see. Sometimes the most valuable skill is learning to calmly coexist! 👏

And let’s not forget, this is also a great opportunity to reconnect with our trainers, ask questions, and spend time with your Off Leash community! ❤️

Cooking dinner? Cleaning the kitchen? Unloading the dishwasher?

Instead of having your four-legged crumb inspector following your every move… GIVE THEM A JOB! 😂

🐾 Practice holding PLACE while you move around.

🐾 Start with short durations and build up!

🐾 Reward calm behavior and good decisions!

Because here’s the thing…

🎃🚨 HALLOWEEN IS THIS WEEKEND… AND YOUR DOG DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THE CHAOS! 👻🐾

Costumes, candy, doorbells, screaming children, inflatable decorations, and strangers showing up at your house every 37 seconds…

SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT TIME, RIGHT?! 🤣

Well, maybe for YOU.

For your dog? It could be the beginning of a very stressful evening!

So before the little ghosts and goblins start knocking, here’s your friendly HALLOWEEN SAFETY REMINDER from Off Leash K9 Training 30A! 💙🧡

🍫 1. KEEP THE CANDY AWAY!

Chocolate and products containing xylitol (sometimes labeled birch sugar) can be extremely dangerous for dogs! Candy wrappers can also cause intestinal blockages. Keep those treat buckets OUT of reach!

🚪 2. DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE FRONT DOOR!

Even a dog with great obedience can become overwhelmed by constant doorbell ringing, unfamiliar people, and excitement.

Use a leash, baby gate, crate, or separate room to prevent accidental escapes.

Halloween night is NOT the time to test your dog’s impulse control! 😂

👻 3. COSTUMES CAN BE SCARY!

Your dog doesn’t necessarily understand that the 6-foot inflatable dinosaur walking down the sidewalk is actually your neighbor, Bob. 🤣

Masks, unusual movements, flashing lights, and unfamiliar sounds can be frightening.

Give your dog space and NEVER force interactions.

🐾 4. YOUR DOG DOESN’T HAVE TO PARTICIPATE!

Not every dog enjoys costumes, trick-or-treaters, or Halloween festivities.

And guess what?

THAT’S OKAY! 👏

A quiet room, favorite chew, enrichment activity, or relaxing evening away from the excitement might be exactly what your dog needs.

🎃 5. BE CAREFUL WITH COSTUMES!

If you’re dressing up your pup, make sure the costume doesn’t restrict breathing, movement, hearing, or vision.

If your dog is uncomfortable, ditch the costume!

Trust us… they’re still adorable without the tiny cowboy hat. 🤠😂

🦴 6. WATCH THOSE DECORATIONS!

Electrical cords, candles, glow sticks, fake cobwebs, and small decorations can create hazards for curious dogs.

Keep decorations out of reach and choose flameless candles whenever possible!

🏷️ 7. DOUBLE-CHECK IDENTIFICATION!

Make sure your dog’s collar tags and microchip contact information are current.

With doors constantly opening and closing, an accidental escape can happen FAST!

❤️ AND HERE’S OUR BIGGEST REMINDER…

A WELL-TRAINED DOG IS STILL A DOG.

Training is incredibly valuable, but it doesn’t mean your dog should be expected to tolerate every stressful situation.

Recognize their body language, advocate for their comfort, and set them up for success!

The goal isn’t to make your dog participate in Halloween. The goal is to make sure they get through it safely and comfortably! 🐾❤️

Now, you might be wondering… what’s so special about having two dogs practicing Place together?

Well, we’re glad you asked! 😉

🐾 Impulse Control: Learning to remain in a designated spot even when another dog is nearby.

🐾 Distraction Training: Because listening when you’re the only dog in the room is one thing… listening when you’ve got a buddy next to you is another! 😂

🐾 Neutrality: Learning that being around another dog doesn’t automatically mean it’s time to play or interact.

🐾 Duration Work: Building the ability to remain in position until released.

But here’s something ELSE we absolutely LOVE about this video…

OUR TRAINERS WORKING TOGETHER! ❤️
