This is what Dr. George removed during an endoscopy on a dog who had swallowed foreign material, including what appears to be part of a Nike shoe.

Pets can get into all kinds of things, and sometimes that curiosity turns into a serious medical issue. We are grateful to have tools like endoscopy that can help us remove certain foreign material without more invasive surgery when appropriate.

If you think your pet may have swallowed something they should not have, it is always best to contact your veterinarian right away.

June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and it’s the perfect time to make sure your pet is covered if an emergency strikes.

A few simple steps now can make a huge difference later. Build a kit, update their ID tags, know your evacuation options, and make sure their records are easy to grab on the way out.

If you need help getting your pet’s vaccines, medications, or records up to date, we’re here.

A few moments from the past week and a half at SMPMC 💙

Some days are busy, some are calm, and some are a little bit of both. Through it all, we are grateful to care for the pets who come through our doors and to be part of their health journey.

Thank you for trusting our team every step of the way.

May is Arthritis Awareness Month, and it’s a good reminder that joint pain in pets doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. Slowing down, skipping stairs, or pulling back from play can all be signs worth taking seriously. If you’ve noticed any changes in your dog or cat’s comfort or mobility, we’d love to help. Reach out to our team at Santa Monica Pet Medical Center and let’s talk about what’s going on.

A little time with Leslie and Coco at the front desk 💙

Some of the best parts of this job are the simple ones. Getting to greet sweet patients, build trust, and share little moments like this throughout the day.

🐾 HAPPY NATIONAL RESCUE DOG DAY

There are dogs right here in Santa Monica waiting for someone to choose them. The Santa Monica Animal Shelter at 1640 9th St is open Tue through Sat. Call them at (310) 458-8595 to see who’s available.

When you adopt a rescue dog, you save a life and open a spot for the next one. Most are already adults so what you see is what you get. Many are house-trained and know basic commands. And adoption fees typically cover spay/neuter, vaccines, and a microchip.

If you’ve recently adopted, congratulations. The next step is a wellness exam to make sure your new family member is set up for a healthy start. Rescue dogs often come with incomplete medical histories so a full checkup, vaccine review, and parasite prevention are important early on.

Remember the 3-3-3 rule: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, 3 months to feel at home. Give them time.

When you’re ready for that first vet visit, we’re here. Link in bio.

How mornings start at SMPMC 🐾

A little hustle, a little teamwork, and the usual getting ready before the day really takes off. Safe to say things pick up fast around here.

There is just something about a new puppy coming in for their first check up that makes everyone melt a little. Safe to say the feeling is very real around here. 🐶💙
