New World Screwworm are ((unfortunately)) something we need to start paying close attention to and watching for. Early detection and an attempt at prevention is key in hopefully keeping this from becoming a problem on our farms. Though we have not seen reports in the area, a human case was confirmed from Maryland in a person who recently traveled to El Salvador. These flies lay eggs in open wounds / mucous membranes and the larvae feed on living tissue rather than regular fly larvae which feed on non-living. Please read over the included images and for any further updates, information & research, please follow & visit (Texas Animal Health Commission) or Texas A&M Agrilife Extension. If at any time you feel as if you have these flies on your property, please contact the clinic for sample submissions.
