I am so relieved to have this update, so proud of this team, and so happy for Simba.

After a handful of skill-building sessions, it was as apparent that Simba (brown dog) was not able to self-soothe, self-regulate, or be quiet when I was around. He’s had 2 years of practice experiencing BIG upset feelings in such situations.

THIS is when low-dose medication can take that level 10 response off the table. With a lower level of arousal accessible, we can begin to teach him to enjoy feeling relaxed. Some trainers would correct him, I choose to give him all the tools to feel better.

If he had people who didn’t work, had volunteer strangers to practice with at home everyday, and could sustain that for about a month, meds wouldn’t be needed. However, most of us have lives and timelines. That’s where medication (Trazadone in this case) can bridge the gap and shorten the time spent/required.

Is he a zombie? Clearly not.
Will he need meds forever? Definitely not, my goal is always to wean off as fast as possible.
